no, that was a night match- this was the last game of the regular season. Holden played and walked off in this one- sure he scored in fact?
we debuted our new kit (01/03) that day- cant remember if we reverted to the current one for the playoffs
came back from the inlaws and went on the piss with Walkden Whites much to my missus dismay
i too had no recollection until you mentioned his leg break
just watched it through, and indeed he did score

tbh I'm more disappointed with Baxter on the first, his angles are slightly wrong- it was barely blasted past him. Joel, with his bigger frame, possibly saves that. Similar to Portsmouth.
That said, its also his responsibility to organise and ensure edges are picked up, unless expressly told not to; the shot itself though was travelling, and moved- the two defenders in the way hamper his reaction time

‘The Wanderer’ is fucking embarrassing.
I’m not a massive fan of the song, but i’d rather have ‘Tubthumping’ at least it’s got a bit of a pumped up chorus.
Or even ‘No more heroes’ by The Stranglers
lead singer a massive Burnley fan; political allegiances aside, that should be a no- and its shite
always fancied White Riot by The Clash, but again probably too political. Chorus alone would be ok

Earlier in season aye when JG was out of form and struggling with injury. Even Pep said he needs to want it more. Seems back in form currently.
...Doku will be out before Grealish but your right in that he will get moved eventually. Players have a shelf life with Pep, he won't fuck about either, your offskis like Cancelo, unless you're in the KDB/ Silver bracket which Jack isn't obviously.
This River Plate kid meant to be a world beater too..
14 year old yank supposed to be incoming- next McAtee 😂

Best save is a hard one for me tbh… Ter Stegen could have his own chapter
worked out the lad might actually qualify for Germany on his mums side- he’s off to Poland on Tuesday as part of Premier League Holocaust Memorial; only two from each club going

The much maligned but only essential position on the pitch- we can’t play without one. I remember Southall and Grobbelaar as a kid and being amazed with their agility, then Schmeichel with his power. My first shirt was a keeper shirt, and Felgate was my hero- later he was 1st team at Leigh when I was in 18s, so I trained with him weekly. My lad plays in net for an academy, district and county so I am a fully paid member of the goalkeepers union and know the highs and lows; let’s celebrate
Favourite Bolton keeper- Jussi
Favourite international keeper- Neuer
Best saves- Branagan double save v Sheff Utd in 97/Jussi v Charlton in cup 01
Iconic moment- Branagan penalty save 95 play off save
Icon- Higuita
Anything stand out to anyone?

Sheff Wednesday scored off 2 corners last night.
just saying 😉And we have done before, but just thrown in aren’t likely to do anything other than cause a scramble.
2001 we beat Liverpool with a goal off a corner- but it was a ball played to Warhurst at the back post, who found Ricketts at the near post. That is a tactical set piece, likely to be based on opponents marking in previous games. Short corners work much in the same way as they either try to change the angle or create space/opportunity
Still, as a man who knows his way around a bookies market, you’ll see the corner:goals ratio for yourself*
*excluding Phil Morris:Weavers

Cba multi quoting, apologies if done already;
there is a chapter on this in the moneyball book- Mourinho said something along the lines of only the English celebrate a corner like a goal. Only 1/10 on average lead to a goal when launched in the box, as a coach of younger kids (especially when they haven’t been taught/allowed to head a ball) I always encourage short corners to either create an overload, or work a chance at the edge of a box to get a shot off.
the hand signals will vary and try to confuse, could be fingers raised, ball bounced/moved to indicate where they intend to play- so what appear to be different gestures will be the same and vice versa

Keepers are taught to play and position themselves as an extra defender. They’ll have sessions purely on passing/distribution where they won’t even don their gloves. They have briefs of where to be in and out of possession, with directives on controlling the pace of the game.
If you see a keeper making a flying acrobatic save, there is a good chance his position was off, but he was set- not a bad thing, but the best keepers make it look easy

Nearly 30 years later and I struggle to think of a better goal than this. The embodiment of the team in one goal; how many strikers on the pitch at this stage? pace, power, individual brilliance, selfless forward play, one touch and driving runs, from defence to the back of the net in seconds… that team never knew they were beat: 0-2 after 12 mins, 3-2 after 105 mins. Biggest game in 15 years and they clawed their way back with panache, wet look gel and an iconic kit
