  1. I wouldn’t play Collins at Peterborough, I’d wrap him in cotton wool. Give Charles and Nlundulu a start and get minutes into them.

It would suit Peterborough if Collins got injured against them on Saturday.

    My frustration is here.

I think he’s built a good team that play good football. When a team wants to let us play, we can smash anyone. Some brilliant performances this season that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching. Some amazing goals thrown in as well.

That said, there is no plan b. I think we struggle against the teams who don’t want us to play (completely their prerogative) and I feel we never win any game outside of having better players than the opposition. What I mean by that is we never seem to win a game by tactical nouse or a smart change of plan/system or out foxing another team. I can’t think of one this season. I don’t see this being learned upon either.

My worry is if and when we get up that we will not have better players then loses will prevail more than wins.

That middle paragraph is exactly what I’ve been thinking for a few months now.

  3. I’ll be keeping an eye on Cambridge’s game on Tuesday away at Bristol Rovers. They drop points there and they will need points against Derby on Saturday, to save their own status as a League 1 club.

  4. On the crowd element. I think, since we nearly went out of business dormant fans have started attending again. The prospect of losing your football club really does make you think of what life would be like without bwfc. I wouldn’t want to experience it again but maybe it did have positive repercussions.

It also is a big help playing attractive football too btw.

He lifted his arms as players surrounded him - nothing really but the Gas fans are making a meal of it.

Lifting your arms is innocuous. They’re just upset because they are losing.

Quite impressed with Derby last night, without the ball they pressed and hassled, when they had the ball they moved it quickly.

Derby seemed to want it more than Pompey.

Pains me to say it, but it would have been a travesty if they’d come away  with anything less than  a point.

Agreed, they were aggressive all over the pitch and very well drilled and the conditions probably suited them.

1987 I think it was. Beat Leyton Orient

It’s crazy to think a club like Burnley could drop out of the football league. It doesn’t get any closer than that though, last game of the season.

    I'd say so...

When we first hit the 4th division, and came up in that game against Wrexham, weren't Wolves and Sheff Utd also promoted with us? - bonkers to imagine Bolton, Wolves and Sheff Utd all in the bottom tier.....I think Burnley might even have been down there as well at the time

IIRC didn’t Burnley have to win their last game of the season in the 4th tier to stay up. Might be 30 years ago or so.

  9. I’ve renewed, takes up a big chunk of my Saturday with the travelling. However for the first time in my life I’m thinking, go and watch the whites before I get too old and I can’t make the trip.

    Medics hide.

They'll say if it's an absolute "no' but otherwise they rarely commit to something. It'll be a 'depends on how the player feels. His body & he knows how he is'.

Oddly, didn't Baxter take longer to recover from an injury at Hull than the club were expecting ?

Aye, I can see that. I suppose Baxter has to think of the long term.

As an aside, apparently Nixon has tweeted that Baxter could be back in the squad this Friday. I’ll wait until Evatt says something but if he doesn’t we’ll know on Friday.

  11. The week before last Evatt said Baxter was having his splint removed on the 15th and seeing the specialist on Monday 18th.

Either that specialist has given the green light to play or not. Shouldn’t the club and the player abide by that specialists advice.

Think Chelsea had only won one title pre Abramovich.

That’s correct. I remember when there was talk of Chelsea building a new stadium in 2015 and one wag said, “ You can’t wipe out 10 years of history just like that”

  13. Another criteria to throw into the mix

Bolton have provided 28 players who have represented England, total of 120 caps

Ipswich have provided 12 players who have represented England, total of 155 caps

    🤷‍♀️

TBH I think I'd settle for seeing anyone winning one of the cups other than the Big 6 before I shuffle off 😀

Maybe Coventry this year?  No, me neither.

I get you, but I’m old enough to remember the lesser clubs winning things and it was better imo than the usual teams winning comps year in, year out. A Forest or Derby or Wimbledon coming to the fore for a one season wonder or a few seasons was good for the punters and gave every fan hope.

I’m not even going there on who the big six are. 😉

  15. I suppose it comes down to big crowds or lots of trophies.

The giants in the game have both.

For me, I’d prefer the trophies, they create memories and go in the record books for ever.

I’m still hoping I’ll see the Whites lift a League cup or even better an FA cup before I shuffle off.

I think we edge it via trophies, Europe and more years in the top flight

What have they got over us?

If its fan potential it's because they are from a city of over 1m

Even in the PL their followings didn't compare to Villa

    This

  17. Let’s get Vic, Charles and Baxter back and playing before the playoffs and get them match fit.

The playoff semis are a minefield but if we get to the final, I think on a big Wembley pitch we will beat anybody.

Exactly this. There's always a chance of a narrow loss in an away fixture of this variety. What's cost us is Orient (a), Northampton (a), Charlton (h), Wigan (a), Blackpool (a), Exeter (a).

    And Carlisle at home

    Attendances primarily.

Big history, Clough factor & Div 1 winners.

Ask 100 people with any football knowledge, who is the biggest club in L1, 90%+ will say Derby County.

    Seasons in top flight

    Derby 61

    Bolton 71

    FA cup final appearances

    Derby 4

    Bolton 7

    League cup final appearances

    Derby 0

    Bolton 2

its all down to opinion but Derby and Bolton are similar to me.

  20. 8 minutes ago, captainmed said:

Well let’s put it this way.

If we don’t belong in this division, they certainly don’t.

Biggest club in the league and by some distance.

    Based on what exactly?

  21. 3 minutes ago, Tonge moor green jacket said:

They regularly "do us" at their place, so they will be confident.

Bigger crowds than us, which is the sort of attitude some of ours have towards Wigan.

We've now got to go and show what we can do and upset them.

Fair enough, our track record at their midden is poor,  but the comment “I expect to beat Bolton at home in every single league we’re in” is just arrogance.
