  1. It all depends on which BWFC turns up, but I can't imagine they're anything but totally fired up and focused for this one so we have a chance. Problem is a game can be lost on a bad decision, poor refereeing, a freak goal etc etc and unfortunately we've put ourselves in a position where we're hostage to that shit and don't have enough games left to put it right if it happens. Five teams for 2 places, one of which is just about in the bag, so we just have to hope we get the good fortune and the others don't. Obviously, if we start playing like champions and score a shedload we have nowt to worry about.
  2. We'd have taken almost anyone at one time, just to exist. They haven't yet sunk as far as we did though.
  3. Comments from the Reading fans - Shades of FV????
  4. Against their team tonight agreed, but against THEIR Ist choice with De Bruyne, Courtois etc it's hard to tell - although the Belgians are in transition with the likes of Mertens and Witsel being ushered out the door and using games like tonight to try out younger blood.
  5. Southgate obviously models his style on Evatt
  6. FFS...mugged again. It really is like watching Bolton
  7. Good possession football from England since the pen. It's almost like watching Bolton....
  8. Walker would have had him, but .....hey it's a pen!
  9. Chilwell was absolutely pants against Brazil and he's not started any better in this game. Surely we have better left backs than Chilwell?
  10. We have to beat Stevenage - and in doing so would leave Lincoln with a free run at a playoff spot. If they win their only "tough on paper" match against direct rivals Oxford, the final day against Pompey could be very spicy.
  11. You reckon? They have to play us, Derby and Barnsley and we all have to beat them. But to drop the 9 or 10 points required to be overtaken by two teams in their tough run in would be an epic collapse. If Pompey don't get promoted from this position I'd be gobsmacked.
  12. Four teams in the mix for one place. Find our form and we have a chance.
  13. We need detail before we can discuss it properly. Our biggest assets are by far and away the stadium and hotel etc so for accounting purposes, we can easily apply light or punitive depreciation/amortization on assets as they age, or conversely pump up the valuation of the land. Trading P and L can be flexed in time dependent on agreements and overall we can create whatever financial scenario we wish within a fairly broad range of acceptability. Ultimately it means jack shit unless the losses are huge. What does matter for the sustainability of the club is success - to bolster TV income, attract higher payments from the FA, expand our fan base if it's not already reached capacity given our catchment area, and produce an attractive proposition for investors. The other income side stuff - working the assets with events and concerts, maximising matchday income, selling merch and media subscriptions and business diversification - FV are already making a decent fist of. All this has to happen with a tight grip on expenditure, especially wages. Producing superstars from the youth set up can't be depended on as the best youth prospects are signed up by Premiership clubs as soon as they're out of nappies and put through the filter - but if we get one reject that comes good like George Thomason every few years it will pay for itself. The youth/B team set up is like buying a lottery ticket and you never know if the next Bellingham brothers will walk through the door, unlikely as that is - but it only needs the occasional win to break even. If we can get to the Championship we have a better chance of finding a sustainable model, doing just enough to keep us there - in the shop window. FV's community engagement, working the venue, messaging and partnering have gone a long way towards changing the external perception of the club (not quite rebranding) so it appears they're doing a decent job with relatively limited resources in the scheme of things. But we just don't really know do we?
  14. It is an impressive run for the playoffs though. That said, I'm not worried about them - I'm worried about us finding and maintaining our best form - we can take on anyone when we're on it.
  15. Looking at the remaining fixtures, if Lincoln carry on as they've been playing recently, they've got an excellent chance of finishing 6th at the expense of Oxford and Stevenage. In their last seven games they've won 6, drawn 1, scored 22 goals and conceded just 1 - the kind of end of season form we can only dream of. Which makes me wonder about finishing 3rd in the league... We can look at where Derby and Posh might drop points, but ultimately we need to take care of our own form and start winning again, ideally as convincingly as Lincoln are doing. Hopefully the break will give us a reset.
  16. Yup, you're right. Our game against them is another Derby situation - an opportunity to hurt our rivals or be hurt, only this time we have to win it. Really don't think we can afford to drop any points now we're at the pointy end of the season TBH
  17. Still need Derby to drop more points though. Home v Blackpool and away at Pompey are probably the best chances of that happening. And then we have to win all our remaining games including beating Posh at their place - and hope they drop points elsewhere or it could be a GD job - but there are no obvious contenders in their remaining fixtures.
  18. Honestly thought Derby came into this expecting to win, but the Cobblers just had more bottle.
  19. Cast iron pen for the Cobblers not given. Ominous.
  20. Hopefully there'll be no need for an inquest
