Kieran Lee goals

I think this qualifies as a "strange but true" coincidence:

16/01/2022 v Ipswich, 2nd half - Lee slots home a bouncing ball into the top left corner of the North Stand net after the keeper spilled a shot from another midfielder.

Exactly 1 year later, to the nearest Saturday, v Pompey, 2nd half - Lee slots home a bouncing ball into the top left corner of the North Stand net after the keeper spilled a cross from another midfielder.

We won both games to nil.

I'm fairly sure the only goal he's put into that net in between the 2 was also in January (Sunderland), so its not like he's always doing it, and its wierd how similar the 2 finishes were.

If you want coincidences, Jason McAteer’s first goals for both Bolton and Liverpool were FACup games v Rochdale. Just saying like.

I remember McAteer's debut (because of how good he looked considering we'd hardly heard of him), but forgot he scored.  A surprising coincidence considering he only scored 11 goals in total for us and Liverpool and they were probably his only 2 games against Rochdale.

best goal Arsenal in the cup, smashed it in

Definitely the "biggest" goal but his first league goal v Millwall the same season was up there too.

My memory may have exaggerated its beauty, but he slalomed through their defence like only he could and buried it.  We won 4-0, same as Rochdale.

I remember being at WBA playing with 10 men and 2 nil down (keeper sent off early) and McAteer equalised late on but I can't remember the goal, just the celebration.

Camera in the away on roadrunner.

Long Sleeved yellow kit. Best ever.

I’d throw in the equaliser in the play-offs at Wolves. If he doesn’t score that, the momentum could well and truly have gone to the dog heads with too much to do at Burnden to turn it round.

Massive goal which was the foundation for our first stint in the premier league.

God it was moody after that game as well.

Tbh, theres loads

For such a good player, i dont think his goalscoring is what it could be

Not disagreeing but I'm struggling to think of a midfield or forward player in our squad who scores enough goals, excluding pens, to match their ability.  Bradley possibly.

Scary inside the stadium and out.  Of all the away games I've ever been to I think that was the most intimidating, noisy atmosphere from home fans.  A barrage of passion and noise, start to finish, except the wonderful minutes after we equalised (completely against the run of play).  WBA in play offs was a similar noise, but without the moody edge.

We got our own back in the 2nd leg. Burnden was rocking that night.

Deffo. Both ties were up there as livliest ever.

Remember going to Wolves and being astounded at the atmosphere. Of all the big grounds Id been to as a kid in that era, theirs was the loudest and most intimidating.

In the BEN on the day of the 2nd leg Rioch had issued a call to really get behind the side.  Not only did the fans respond, we gave Wolves players dogs abuse every time they were in possession, constant whistling etc and it definitely got to them. A great night.

Was it Newport away when it appeared he had a bet on himself not to score?

Anyway, that aside, he's our best midfielder by a country mile and it's clear why he's played most of his career in the Championship.  Obviously he has some fitness issues, but if he didn't he'd still be playing in the Championship.  When fully fit he's a guaranteed starter.

Noticed a big improvement in Lee closing down, tackling and breaking up the opposition play, Evatt also mentioned that in same article, this means he is now one of the first names on the team sheet, still needs to be nursed to a large degree to protect and get best out of him, Evatt managing him superbly.
