The 2023–2024 FA Cup Final is being played right now, on May 14, 2024, at Wembley Stadium in London. The match is between Chelsea and Liverpool.

As of 10:12 PM EST, the score is Chelsea 0 – 0 Liverpool.

I will update you with the final score once the match is over.

Update:

The 2023–2024 FA Cup Final has been won by Liverpool, who defeated Chelsea 6–5 on penalties after the match was tied 0–0 after extra time.

Liverpool's goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, saved two penalties in the shootout, while Kostas Tsimikas scored the winning penalty.

This is Liverpool's second FA Cup win in a row, and their eighth overall.

Congratulations to Liverpool on their victory!

They’ll come for you first because you mocked them

Govt advisors saying AI could bring end of humanity within two years.

Given their record I’m pretty reassured

Create panic

Nail down big contracts to “deal” with panic.

Retire to well-feathered nest.

I’m excited about AI referees in pro football.

Every decision correct. Every foul, every offside, every dive - all sorted in milliseconds by our digital overlords.

And AI stewards telling us to sit down.

Well they'll now be running out of the  money they made dealing with the Millennium Bug.

Worth a read of the article on sky news.

The advisor was responding to a letter and comments from many experts in the field, and covers the need for regulation.

A civil servant doing his job. Thankfully.

Exactly

It won’t be Skynet that wipes us out.

Itll be us.

But AI will cause it.

Get that bank loan. Enjoy what’s left.

At least it should kill off the celebrity news columns and paparazzi

Hopefully

By the way, when applying for the loan, don’t use “imminent Armageddon” as the reason for it.

AI to stop water pollution before it happens

Very interesting that.

Just shows though that AI as a term has a broad meaning.

To me that is a system of analytical equipment working in conjunction with software to produce a picture of the future- just like weather forecasting.

In my mind, that isn't AI though. I always imagine it to be a set up that can "think" for itself and essentially modify its own software as it learns. Sorry if that is anthropomorphising it, but I dunno the techical terms for it

AI is very broad as it can be used for pretty much anything

self modification of code of software, the idea of it going rogue and turning itself into a wrong un or whatever is science fiction

It might be able to make its own source code more efficient if that's what it's been programmed to do

It consumes information and data, learns and acts accordingly based on what it's been programmed to do and in turn asked to do

I imagine You would normally need someone to interpret the data and make a specific request to a particular farmer to stop using a particular fertiliser in a specific field based on current and forecast trends, or maybe it's never been done that way

But AI makes it possible

The analytical side of it is one thing

The recommended actions of the back of it is another

Likewise

Knowing the weather forecast is one thing

But you could have an AI app that you tell where you are going on a certain day and it could say "take it brolly as it will be raining" or "going to be really hot, don't forget sun cream" etc

Surely the last paragraph is implied by the forecast itself. A bit worrying that anyone might need to be told!

Anyway, why do you think so many top bods in the field have written a letter about their concerns?

I saw an article where the US military was running theoretical tests to determine if autonomous uavs might inadvertantly attack the base operator as they "work out" solutions.

All very deep!

The weather example was a simplistic example of how it can be utilised, ie analyse and react, but that is effectively what the water pollution system is doing

The concerns are rightly about the utilisation and what humans do with it, and where it takes us

It needs regulation

But there's so many positive things it can be used for

There's also a lot of paranoid as well imo

Blimey, a news article that understands river pollution is an issue with agriculture rather than claiming the water companies dump raw sewage for fun

Biggest problem with that experiment is the instrumentation needs calibrating and filters cleaned at leat weekly as well as relying on solar power. The EA are trying to impose similar sets upstream and downstream of every treatment works discharge with no understanding of the engineering reality.
