I also find it quite interesting how in the mid/late 70s we were getting home crowds of 40-45,000, then just 5 years later, 4/5,000ย

TAKE OUT THE LC SF and I donโ€™t think we were anywhere near 40 to 45k

We wasnโ€™t getting crowds that size apart from a few games in the cup. We had 42000 on Boxing Day against Sunderland but they brought about 10000. Blackburn game midweek was 33000 but a lot of Blackburn

Average was 34,000 division 2 77/78 that was best in the 70sย

Goes for a lot of clubs Chelsea used to get some really poor crowds in the 80s and Everton averaged 19,000 92/93 season and have the record for being involved in lowest attendance in premier league history 3,039 at Wimbledon that season . Doesnโ€™t seem that long ago reallyย

Just shows how quickly things can change in football.

My grandparents were going to Bolton matches at Burnden Park in front of 60-70,000 when they were growing up.

Things are so different now, especially with the safe standing and with the disaster in 1946 and clubs geographically on our doorsteps becoming footballing giants.

Despite compared to our illustrious past crowds, it's fantastic to see us on a sharp incline, young fans coming in, attendances on the up, sold out away ends and possibly 35,000 at Wembley.

We are on our way back!ย

Not very often they werent

Granted theyd be a few years older than me but the only 3 i remember over 40 were mid 70s

42, 46 and 50, 000

Thered not be any more in the 70s and obviously, none since

I imagine the 60s werent record breakers, so its back to the period between the end of the war and late 50s

Even then there were some mad fluctuations from one game to the next

Im sure i once scoured marlands book and there were very few bigger than the everton 50

Sunderland (league) Newcastle (FACup)and Everton (League Cup)?

Theyโ€™re certainly the biggest crowds I remember. Man U in 74/75 was โ€˜onlyโ€™ 38,152

Id still say not

Anyway

Look at this

https://bicky.co.uk/season.php?season=1932-1933

Find our record attendance, then look at the home games either side of it!

ย

Which, in turn raises another question...midweek games

Presume theyd be played at 1pm in the winter?

No wonder crowds were low

I went to both and abiding memory of Everton SF was the terrible penalty. ย Against Darlington it was Allardyce whose legs had clearly gone.
