Big Vic was still the most effective of the two yesterday. Neither of them had a sniff (penalty apart). He'd scored plenty for Burton, and Evatt will be aware of how they were scored.

I've not seen them, but I'd be surprised if there weren't a number of decent crosses played in for him to attack.

We seem to have more crosses when Jones plays right centre (he's a good crosser) and when Lee plays, with his clever movement opening things up.

Can't remember any early balls played in, some second balls played in second half, but with no quality and a packed penalty area. Too narrow with Jones on the left and no Lee.

Once or twice first half we had the opportunity to slip a striker in, particularly when Shoretire intercepted a pass- but his forward, and relatively simple, pass was poor and overhit.

Possession not as high, slow and inaccurate. Not sure what any striker could make out of that yesterday.

We rely so much on Bradley for creativity and width and he can't do it all.

We need to improve our movement, width, speed and accuracy of passing to get anything of note out of the strikers.

11 in 26 for Burton this year. 9 in 148 in the Football League before that. So if we were expecting goals I think we've been Madine'd.

Positive spin is that to have a scoring record that shite, but to have played so many games at a fairly young age means he must have something to his game.

A late developer?

McGinlay similar. One thing is for sure, if the only service they get is with their back to goal, frequently outside the box, then they're not scoring many.

That's 1 goal, 1 assist and 2 bookings in 7 games according to Transfermarkt and others.

Which is shit TBH. Mind you Victor is doing only slightly better.

Don't see the bookings relevance meself.  St Pauli scored 11 goals in those 7 wins so there's only so many can be involved in the final pass so not a true reflection. Watched his goal yesterday a few times now and it's a great finish. Sure he's a crowd favourite already. He's played every game and they were on edge of relegation zone and are now vying for promotion to the Bundesliga so doing someat right.

I'd guess Victors asssists are in the 5 nillers when we could have scored 10 and his one goal was a yard out me nan would have scored. I hope the lad comes good we will have to see but he won't do owt with his back to goal or toe to toe with any defender with decentish pace. Maybe the likes of Isgrove could offer something from the wing area a little different they'd benefit from.

I'm planning a filthy sordid Hamburg weekend soon as on the excuse of watching the lad if I can get a ticket. Apparently they have more season ticket holders than most and very few tickets on sale for each game. Anyone been there before let me know the low down for tickets.

Agreed, from yesterday, there's only Santos that would get into Ipswich's team, so it's arguable that being in a play off position is success in itself & almost as far as we can go with the current squad.

The next step up to join the top group might need the recruitment of 1,2 or 3 better/ more experienced players which isn't easy as we can't match Ipswich's spending. ( we could also do with Victor & Williams improving.....their CV's, suggest that they should be better than they have been so far )

This is not a dig at the 2 players, but their CVs don't suggest that to me.  Williams mainly at Exeter in league 2, Vic had one purple patch for a few months this season in terms of goalscoring, but if we're just looking at stats and CVs Declan John and Bakayoko are a class above.

Been to Hamburg plenty times but always watched HSV. When I watched St Pauli it was at HSV. Stayed right next to the ground as well. Belting place.

@Big Eyour best bet on St Pauli as a former native and part time homosexual

Win the pizza final, finish 6th & it'd still be a progressive season even though we'd be somewhat disappointed due to expectations. This season we've been horrible in terms of picking up a big result against teams around the top I think it's only Barnsley away we've picked up the win where they were down to 10 men for 70 min, we picked up a very impressive win at P'Boro but they've also been shocking against the top 6 also so you can't say we deserve to be in the mix of auto's. In games like yesterday we can't be throwing in Shola in behind the front two It's absolutely suicide playing him as the attacking mid in a three man midfield because he's basically a luxury player you can't afford in the big games makes Demps/Morley have to go through much more work. I have some sympathy for Victor though, he's never been prolific, never really been a striker until this season & he played an entirely different variation of football at Burton with less pressing more goal hanging... seemed a bit of a panic buy due to Dapo/JDB/Baka all gone or injured. We're missing JDB massively he was a perfect partner for Dion, although with Victor hopefully he can do a Dempsey & show his real form properly from the start next season.

Since leaving Declan out on Saturday for the “tactical” reasons IE stated does that mean we’ve seen the last of him? It clearly indicates IE has little or no faith in him and surely that can’t be good for the lads confidence?  Sincerely hope not because neither Jones or Williams can play that role as well as DJ.

DJ's days are numbered for sure. Iredale is first choice when fit, despite not being a wing back.

Whilst John sat and watched (or went shopping with his wife in the Trafford Centre on matchdays), Iredale, Johnston, Jones, Afolayan and Williams have all had a go at doing a better job and none have succeeded.

Probably, if Evatt had his choice. The writing has been on the wall for a while now. I think it was the Forest Green game, where he put Johnston on out there while John was on the bench.

When IE decides he's done with a player, that's usually it. Seems harsh to me, but he's got it right more often than not so far.

i dunno if theres been a fall out but if not, evatt was clear in his reasoning

he felt we should set up to negate their winger

it didnt work

but yon winger wont be playing against us every week

Aye, still bollocks.

Best form of defence is attack. If it wasn't, why do so many teams do 'the press'

John pushes on and their winger has to think twice about leaving space behind.

PS let's stop picking our team negatively and play to our own strengths and let the opposition worry about it.

Aye, particularly when chasing points to ensure a play of place. Might also give us a confidence boost should we encounter them in those matches.

And by playing Jones at LWB, the defence was weakened by playing Mbete, who has dropped off dramatically since his first two games.

He needs to tighten it up while Johnston is out and play Toal on the left of Santos and Jones on the right.

IMO anyway 😁
