My favourite is still Preston if only because of their supreme confidence going into the match on the back of Macken and Healy's goalscoring form plus we rode our luck and the match was in the balance until the death. Don't think Moyes or Alexander have had a kind word to say about us since.

And?

Portsmouth would never be easy and we lost to ipswich

The only 'poor' result was morecambe and theres every chance we wouldve failed to win there

Theres a perception we have been on a bad run cos we arent scoring many, but the truth is far from it

I think the players have done great when you factor in the loss of the 2 centre backs who would be in everyones first 11

Agreed.

We are exactly where we should be. Not quite top 2 material but not far off.

Absolutely buzzing to be in play offs, weirdly probably more so than getting to the papa johns final.

Prefer to play Barnsley who are leaking goals for fun and our defence fairly solid, if we can more clinical then we have every chance.

Not weird at all. It was a great day out for Bolton fans, especially after everything we’ve been through, but I’d chose a shot at the playoffs in a heartbeat over the pizza cup.

Top 5 for me:

1) Wolves home. Atmosphere of 100% pure, distilled, hatred - but done in a way that also fired the team up.

2) 1st Ipswich away. Overshadowed by events a year later but astonishing night.

3) Reading. Only 3rd? Well yes, it turned out the be astonishingly great, but in reality we effectively fucked it up. You'd have to re-play it umpteen times - from the instant the penalty was given - before we won again.

4) Preston. Top day out all round.

5) The Knight debacle. At least you could say you were there I suppose. Is he dead yet?

I know finances dictate but I really couldn't be arsed with a full away end at the reebok for either Barnsley or Sheff Weds.

Limit the allocation and sell half the end to our own for me.

I don’t think we could mate unless it was dirt cheap

be interesting this one as season ticket holders will have to buy tickets rather than automatically counted in the attendance, so the ones who have bought junior tickets and not used them ain’t going to buy or the ones who want more leg room etc.

Performances were poor in the time between the cup games. We couldn't find a white shirt against Ipswich, irrespective of whether they are a fine team.

The rest of your post refers to post cup final injuries and fewer goals, which I certainly don't dispute.

Quite simply, performances dropped between the two games. It cost us because we were within striking distance of the top two beforehand.

Doesn't matter what the reasons were, but they did.

Realistically though we were never heading the autos and based on our results against the top 6 we wouldnt deserve to.

Its those results, in the big games, that have cost us most this season. Unlucky in a couple of them, nowhere near in most of em. Its those games that define your season at the top end.

We can beat anyone on our day but our day against the top end happens far to few and far between. I also don’t expect us to have our day 3 times in a row in order to get promoted

3 draws and 2 penalty shootouts will do.
