Ipswich have spent a fuck load of money last few seasons

(you can change the dates for other years)

Our Board have always said will only spend what we can afford and I do think the Ipswich model is in our reach.
Hopefully division will be weaker next season , if Weds go up that will be nearly 300 points 'leaving' the teams coming down look nothing special and Derby might not spend much.

I can see Ipswich challenging the top 6 in the championship next season too. If there squad had settled into a rhythm earlier, they'd have pissed the league with frightening ease

Hope Wednesday do go up get them out the way . But there are always other teams that are a threat . Charlton are in the mids of a takeover American billionaire. And Pompey will get there act together sooner or later

Interesting thread. Personally I don’t think there’s any doubt that we’ve improved on last season, but Evatt had a poor January and the summer window is massive now with big holes to fill just to replace Bradley and Trafford, never mind improve on other positions.

Over the 3 hours of football, Barnsley were comfortably the better side so absolutely no qualms over the outcome, and yet we arguably really weren’t far off in the end.

Good to bump in to any number of WWays posters, glad everyone got sorted with tickets and the support was incredible all night.

Turns out Barnsley is an absolute gem for boozers, too. The little arcade with the shared outdoor area for three separate little micro pub type players was terrific. Ended up in the Irish bar after the game and tbf the Barnsley fans we spoke to were all pretty gracious in victory.

Made it all of about 50 yards away from hotel, mind. Should probably get a shift on at some point.

Roll on next season.

That’s like saying the number one serial poster of total bullshit and contradiction is not in the building trade.

Some kind of Manager yet finds enormous amounts of time to post constantly on here during normal working hours.

As i’ve said before, true colours shown once again last night.

Water finds its own level and I sincerely hope that you fuck off soon as most do and maybe spend more time with your family and do some fucking work.

I think that’s a bit harsh on @royal white.

His true colours are white, but the Salford thing is probably geography as much as anything.

I didn't think Taol or Santos looked 100% fit last night.

We've probably been over reliant on Bradley all season. Bump him out of the game and then we seem to have very few options left.

Seen over the course of a week, it's a disaster. Seen over the course of a couple of years and it's year on year progress.

I think there's quite a bit of pressure on IE next season. And certainly on the recruitment team over the summer.

Thought the same.   They just didnt look 100%,  a lot of challenges that Santos had he came away wincing ,  think most fans were surprised when toal came back so quick.   Who knows but they just weren't at it.

Any road to much dissecting now,  it's done. Can we move onto what colour is the new kit, will it look good with Jeans,  what date are the fixtures out, wtf is Dempsey doing in Alex's magaluf.

I'm sure Derby will add to what is a decent enough squad, then with that manager and a pre season they will be up there along with whoever loses the po final

Maybe Peterborough, Ferguson got them playing and they have goal scorers

If we can bring in decent players we should be top six again

And they are a lot nearer where we want to be.

What we played last night (and in more than a handful of games since January) was shite football and every bit as bad to watch as the worse Megson days or whatever. You can't just brand yourself 'the good footballing team' and use that as a crutch when you get beat.

Building from the back last night amounted to Rico standing still with the ball at his feet and knocking it to Toal. Plan B when that didn't work was lumping it down the line and losing it. Plan C was throwing every striker on in no particular formation... and still passing it around the back with no midfield.

I'm not advocating ripping it up or Evatt abandoning how he wants to play, but we do need get our heads out of own arses about how noble we are for playing the way we do.

Good post.  Watching us pass it around in our half, especially if we are losing, is hard to watch.  I know IE says it tires the opposition out but I don't see much evidence of that, surely it tires us out as well with all the unseen runs by wingers and strikers who rarely get a pass.  The lack of shots on goal, even if we win, can suck the life out of the games and really minimises thrills and spills, replaced by well drilled, unthreatening passing.  When we play with pace and intensity its fantastic to watch (Wembley, Wycombe home etc) but that level of performance is becoming less and less frequent.

Same as you I really want it to work and admire the intentions, but surely there have to be tweaks to get more shots on goal, and of course the backward step in the forward line has to be addressed to give us a realistic chance.

As for League 1 next year, yeah it's still shit but I'm looking forward to it.

Ipswich, Plymouth and possibly Sheff Weds out of the way, with weaker, smaller supported clubs in Wigan, Blackpool and Reading replacing them, which definitely strengthens our chances. I'd expect us to improve our position next year regardless.

Also, local games to Accy and Morecambe are replaced with Wigan, Blackpool and Possibly Stockport/Bradford.

And we finally can look forward to not playing MK Dons anymore, as they have gone as well. We will still will have some big matches to look forward to against Derby, Pompey, Wigan, Blackpool & possibly Bradford

Scratching my head here,January onwards is only part of a season and if finishing higher in the league is not an improvement well I need to go back to school

The squads we had in the two halves of 2022 were better than the squad we have now, just my opinion.  Yes we improved pre-January compared to 2022-23, but that has been reversed with the changes in January for me and a lot other fans judging by comments on here.

Taking the team we have now, not over the whole season, I don't see the improvement whatever position we finished.  IE will know he has some repair work to do in the summer and I'm sure he'll do that, everyone is allowed a poor transfer window.  Just not 2!

This League Season:

First 23 games - 37 points

Last 23 Games - 44 points

Maybe Gethin Jones isnt given enough credit

Would him and bradley together have caused more issues...definitely imo

Definitely for me too , Jones is top notch tactically gets the best out of Bradley not as good a defender as Toal but streets ahead in terms of positioning & making the right runs ,might have been a tough one last night with that shithouse Kane lumping & bumping Bradley .Certainly missed last night.

Our left-side looked more productive in the second half , & I can’t understand why John didn’t take that titty line freekick, crying out for a left pegger ,maybe he just wasn’t arsed?

Another tactical mystery is why with only five minutes left , & the fairly statuesque but tall Jerome on , do we not shove Santos forward & sling crosses in like every other team does In similar circumstances, second balls etc.

Our long list of 0-1 defeats would be much shorter if we went agricultural for the last minutes of a game , surely ?

Said that myself every team in the world gets it in the mixer in last 5 minutes in a one of game .
You can guarantee that we will be the only team in any of the playoffs games last couple of weeks that didn’t have a shot on target

He’s a really good player and he turns defence into attack much better than Toal.

Different types of players though different positions. Gethin is more cultured and been a big miss more .
But I think toal as been a good signing when you look at is age and experience league of Ireland he as done well . Might of dropped off recently but that happens and a few weeks ago he was out for the season probably still playing with an injury .
sometimes you need centre half’s who is strong got a bit of pace and just clears the ball
