  • Results and more specifically spineless shithouse performances like Saturday just gone can define a whole season. We get beat at Burton and then home to Derby the good will wont last long.

  • Cold light of day. 5 games in - 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. The excitable types had the scalpel hovering over their wrists in the pre season FFS. We said assess it after 10 games. Calm the fuck down.

This has become a very important barometer for our season. Win this and we can banish last week from memory as a bad day that we have learned from. Anything else means our confidence is dented and with Derby at home to follow it is not a good sign.

Oddly long term, Last weeks defeat may help us out. Think the players will have been bought down a peg or 2 by the reality check.

I see no reason to think we not going for autos still.

We win this and most would of snapped your hand off 12/15. Not me as I’m a perfectionist but most.

Things back on track by the weekend.

Agree with both of these.

More than 2/3 changes, I feel would be detrimental. I think there’s only Dempsey that escaped heavy criticism  V Wigan.

So it’s going to be frustratingly annoying pre-match when the team-sheet comes out and criticism is being aimed at any of the other 10. We’ll have our football manger experts out criticising Evatt for his selection.

I’m very much in the camp now of let’s turn Saturday into a reality check, use it as motivation to right the wrongs early in the season to get back on track for where we need to be. Not just Saturday, but for the next set of games.

Win and back to the top of the table.

It's a good game to show if we have a bit of steel about us.

Tough side to play against, a ground we usually struggle at and coming on the back of last weekend's result is a real opportunity for them to prove a point.

Burton are another Cheltenham.

Approach the game like we did at Cheltenham and we'll be fine. 12 out of 15 is something we'd have taken at the start.

The key this season is to do as well or better than we did in games last season.

Last season we beat Lincoln 2-0, 3-0 this season
Cheltenham (A) was 0-1 last season, 3-0 this
Fleetwood (H) 2-0 to 3-1
Wigan (H) was 0-4 last time we played them and 0-4 again this time

So, 6pts have become 9pts and we only drew at Burton 1-1 last season, so a win would give us 12pts against a previous 7. Yes, it's papering over the big game mentality, but improvements elsewhere can cover the deficit.

They are bottom of the league.

Any team that’s a serious promotion contender goes there and wins.

Score first and we win easily.

A bogey ground where we always struggle though but they will be so fired up for this and should be too strong.

0-4.

Just bring George and Paris in for Morley and Sheehan for me

And Charles for Dan of course

Same post as you made for Cheltenham and I very much hope it’s the same result. I agree that we should be winning this (and I think we will).

But, it would be remiss of me not to point out that Plymouth drew there last season and both Sheff Weds and Barnsley lost. Ipswich scraped a 1-0 win, so it’s not the easiest of places to go. 🙂

Burton do look to be weaker this season.

I agree Captain, we should be well fired up for this one after Saturday and with 6 of their first team out injured, including Stockton, if we can’t beat these now we don’t deserve to consider ourselves as realistic contenders.

Certainly going in the right direction- I suppose if you extrapolate the first four games over the season, we finish with a 75% win rate with with 105 points, or there abouts. :)

We certainly do need these extra points as we were quite some way off the automatics last season.

Then we would be around the right place, whether that would be quite enough..

Wouldn’t drop Sheehan - he was one of the better players against Wigan (better because apart from Dempsey they were all crap)

Unfair on Sheehan for me

Morley & dan drop to bench

Same for me.

But if Morley does start, we really shouldn’t be too animated over his selection, Evatt will have been with him all week and will know better than anyone whether he’s the man to do the job against Burton. You can actually apply this to the other 10 who also didn’t cover themselves in glory.

We only have to go back to the Fleetwood game when the large majority on here thought Morley should start - part of the winning side in the first 2 games, so Evatt should go unchanged was the consensus.

I actually predicted he would make the changes he did. Evatt gets it right a lot more than wrong, in terms of selecting the right players for the right game, but we are understandably twitchy after Wigan.

One things for sure, if Morley starts and plays well in a victory it will be far quieter with compliments than the negative noise we’ll hear if he starts and we don’t win.

Part of me hopes he plays and has a blinder 😊

Absolutely as many have said Morley was no worse than anybody else Saturday unfortunately the spot light is more on the midfield players as we was cut open

Jones, Morley and Dan out. Forrester, Paris and Charles in.

First three goals we’re defending fuck ups even though we got bullied in midfield; plus we wouldn’t have been bullied if we had a ref stopping the dirty scum

I think Thomason will play - but instead of Sheehan. Not really a slight on Sheehan, just from comments from Evatt about that being the big call on the opening day.

Charles in for Dan picks itself.

I reckon he'll go with the rest, give them chance to redeem themselves. 1-2

Sheehan got what looked like a dead leg midway through the first half (about the 3rd time he was clattered) - when he went off on 60 mins he had ice straight on it so if that means he’s not 100% for Saturday then it wouldn’t surprise me to see Tomo in as I think he’ll bring Maghoma in for Morley regardless of Sheehan’s fitness.

Personally, if Sheehan isn’t quite right then I’d put Morley back there because it’s where he played his best football last season and bring Maghoma into Morley’s role further forward.

We have signed CMG and Paris to bolster the squad. Both been here for a few weeks and had a taste at first team level and both have performed at this level.

I would have no issue with one or both coming in. Equally if Evatt who works with the players every day sticks 'as is' I won't be surprised. Assuming no injuries only thing that would surprise me in midfield would be if Dempsey was not in from start.

Burton is now a 'must win', if we had (b)eaten the pies a draw at Burton would have been acceptable.

If (when) we beat Burton, Derby will be a 'must not lose'; ideally we beat them but a draw would be acceptable.

If we lose at Burton, the pressure will really be on and Derby becomes a 'must win at all costs'.

We're 4 games into the season, W3 L1. Just for some added perspective.

Well if the players genuinely want to be in the Championship next year via the automatics shouldn’t they be pressurising themselves to win every game whatever point in the season it is?

Just have a look at Plymouths home record last season. They were like a machine.

Also their league results since Wembley. Brilliant reaction to massive disappointment.

They are the traits you need if you’re going to be top 2 all season.

They will be playing under intense pressure this season as the expectation is so high.

If you can’t stand the heat……

Just because a fan (as opposed to the manager) voices an opinion doesn't add any more pressure on the players whatsoever, the pressure to get promoted is already there and has been since the end of last season.

Unfortunately, due to the inept performance last Saturday, the players have increased the pressure even  further.

My point is, if they don't get at least 4 points from the next 2 games, that pressure will increase further..... Nobody will be 'adding that pressure' it will be automatic, based on their performances and results.

Was it ever thus!
