  • Results and more specifically spineless shithouse performances like Saturday just gone can define a whole season. We get beat at Burton and then home to Derby the good will wont last long.

  • Cold light of day. 5 games in - 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. The excitable types had the scalpel hovering over their wrists in the pre season FFS. We said assess it after 10 games. Calm the fuck down.

  • the idea of putting folk under that much pressure at this stage of the season is bonkers

Toal in if fit

I'd be more tempted with Forester for now and give Toal another game or 2 at B team level.

Only a matter of time though until Toal is playing

Either way we need a more physical presence than Jones or we are just not learning lessons

Jones has been good this season apart from his horror show (not the only one) yesterday. Against the better teams that have a high press he needs changing but so does our tactics which can’t cope

Randell pulling out of that tackle for the 2nd goal May never be forgiven by me.

The soft underbelly is still there unfortunately

Paris maybe the answer in midfield I think he’ll start against Burton

cant see IE dropping his vice captain myself

I’d drop Dan, Sheehan and Morley. Bring in Charles, Paris and CMG (or Thomason). If Toal is fit, I’d bring him in for Iredale.

He wasnt alone either :(

I think Sheehan gets an unfairly hard time on here personally.

He offers something none of the other midfielders do and whilst yes, he's not the strongest, we can still afford to accommodate him as long as piss weak Morley isn't playing.

I thought Mendes Gomes may have started yesterday to try and harry their defence like Charles does. He wouldn't have done it as well as Charles, but he's probably the closest we've got.

All that said, I'd be loathe to go into knee-jerk wholesale changes mode, we should give some players a chance of retribution next week.

And as for Maghoma, he's no midfield enforcer either.

Correct. 100%.

Sheehan can boss things with the right players around him. He’s got a bit of class and can control the tempo. We desperately need to sort a right bastard out in midfield though.

Sheehan was the least of our worries yesterday. At least he had a go.

Not a fan of wholesale changes IE did it first part of last season it didn’t work

Personally I’d drop dan & Morley for Burton that’s it

Might be wrong but didn’t IE drop sarcevic when he was skipper, Jones still in credit but we can’t afford to many no shows from our more experienced players. IE won’t be fazed by making tough decisions.

He was back to last season’s Randy yesterday. I’ll let him off as he’s been good for the first 3 and he wasn’t alone yesterday, but you’re right, that attempt at a challenge showed his true colours.

If I was a manager of any team in league 1 I will see what happened yesterday and use the same tactics because we have no answer to those tactics and neither does our coaching staff .
I agree with comments about Morley drop him and send him out on loan and bring somebody in who as some bottle.

It's been said many times, but we really need a plan b

We have to win this game

I think we need to stop making this about tactics

If cheltenham played in the fashion wigan did, we would beat em 6 0

Its doing wigan a massive disservice putting all this down to tactics

On the day, we couldnt cope with em and much of that is down to how good some of their players are

Saving grace this season we shouldn’t have 3/4 other teams that will roll us like previously

The problem with Sheehan is that went were are under pressure he has zero physical presence. He did some decent things on the ball yesterday but not enough.

TBF his game relies on others to get him the ball and them to give it back to them, when others are struggling he goes the same way.

Singling out players from yesterday is harsh because no one turned up.

Keeper poor on 2 of the goals, both wing backs offered little going forward and less at the back (RDW pulling out of a challenge was a low light) , Jones distribution awful, santos bullied by Wyke, Iredale bullied by Humphrey , Morley non existent , Sheehan ineffective. Dempsey won the tallest dwarf competition for least shit, Big Vic bullied by their defence, Big Dan did virtually nothing.

Dan is proper shit.

He'll be this season's Kachunga

300,000 for him waste of money .

Still bags of time to change minds and become a decent player for us but I didn't see anything that he contributed on loan which prompted us to spend precious funds on.

We've spent money on you, make that place up front yours, own it. Put yourself about. But no.
