Never wins a challenge fairly?

Can't pass, can't turn, makes mistakes.

Why does Evatt bother?

OK I take that back, he obviously wins some challenges, but its very rare, certainly far less than Dempsey and Sheehan.  I didn't say he can't turn or pass, not sure what you're getting at there.

I think he's poor at tackling and today he made some mistakes, not sure which bit you disagree with.

He's got a far bigger passing range in his locker than he showed today, he can put it on a sixpence 35 yards away which only Santos can match, but I was just talking about today and he didn't try those passes, it was all 10 yard stuff partly because of Derby's deep defence, meaning the game was never stretched.  All that subtle stuff around the box isn't really his game, but he has plenty qualities that I didn't think were particularly on show today.

Good reaction & win

Choice & timing of substitutes nearly cost us I thought but not the time for negatives

good break now from the league give some run outs midweek

Ive not got a clue what all the subs were about, but only one bloke had to answer for em

And as we won, he was right

I think we dominated the play more against 11 men than 10

Great result and performance overall

But if we're going to pass it around the edge of the box waiting for a chance to ping it in then we'd be better off bringing JDB on before Nlundulu and Jerome

Missed the game in Rhodes speaking to a couple of Barnsley fans they reckon we play the best football in this league and if we click we will piss this league .
As for Barnsley they reckon play offs best chance for them .

Derby, it must be said, are pretty average.

But let’s not ignore the fact we made them look it today.

Yes, their general play was very average, lacking quality and pace.  But they had an annoying habit of putting quality crosses in from their fairly rare attacks.  We must have put 20 crosses in, mainly from the right, and those in the air were so easy to defend (when we played it on the ground or passed it rather than crossed it, we looked better).  Virtually all their high crosses, either from corners or open play, were hit with purpose direction and pace, reminded me of Sheff Wed's crossing last season, always aimed at a specific target not just floated in.  Really difficult to defend against.  But compared to Wigan they look far less likely to be threatening the top 2, one trick ponies.

As soon as it became a game of 'pass it side to side, then out wide, then cross' it was crying out for JDB to get up against their big CBs and get his head on one of them.

Yet again neither Nlundulu nor Jerome added anything. I've a feeling Evatt's comment about turning Nlundulu into the next Toney will haunt him, unless it's by way of him learning the difference between a Lucky 15 and an Acca

Massive result that. No stand out player today for us, but we are such a better team with Toal playing.

Expected a lot more from Derby. Bang average team.

Or

Maybe we are good

Battered em

We were excellent today, only thing was that we need to be more punishing.

But fuck me, I thought that Derby were genuinely awful. If you didn't tell me their name, they just looked like a poor/average league 1 side that base their entire play on set pieces and bringing giant defenders up for long throw ins.

Fleetwood I felt were much better of a footballing side than them.

I agree with Evatt, 10 men made it difficult with them playing even more deep, although our possession was already 70% at half time.

It's all on us this season Whites to get promoted.

Sheehan was like a metronome dictating tempo.

Toal and to a lesser extent Thomason gave us more physicality than against that lot who still have a big wage bill from down the road.

Highly satisfactory day.

Agree wholeheartedly.

I absolutely love watching Sheehan do his thing, he's vital for the way we play and can use his low centre of gravity and agility to deal with pressure.

Toal & Thomason is what we missed against Wigan.

I think we just need to change Jones for Forester, give him a chance and then I think we could have a realt strong starting XI.

Nlundulu and Jerome... Yikes. I'm just glad we are least have Bod as an option.

Great win. Really happy with that today.

But I am going to have a little moan.

Why when we lose/draw does Evatt come in for extreme criticism, but when we win it’s seems like it’s in-spite of him?

I’ve not scrutinised every post match comment, but I don’t think I’ve read anything along the lines of:

- he got the starting selection spot on

- he was really praiseworthy of the fans in his post match interview

- he set the team up well to tactically deal with a strong promotion challenging team

- he found the right combinations across the park to address the physical weaknesses that were evident against Wigan

- how he mentally prepared the players to distance themselves from any negativities this week and start the game really positively, making a bold statement that we are a team to be feared this season.

Yes there’s some positive comments about the players but Evatt’s not really getting much praise.

If anything I’m reading more about how bad things could have been because of Evatt; the subs, not creating enough chances, not shooting enough, not getting enough crosses in, (he actually talks about he didn’t want this happening in his post match comments).

If we’d have lost I have a feeling the criticism would have far outweighed any praise he’s due when we win.

I thought Gethin had his best game in ages today. Most of our threat came down the right with him and Cogley over lapping each other.

Crowd were singing Evatts name most of the first half.

Empty vessels make more Internet noise.

Relax and enjoy!

Massive win but was desperately hoping for a third goal because we really weren't creating much and felt like they might just nick summat later on.

First time in decades where I was actually going to give someone a smack, one of ours as it happened, but was thankfully stopped.

I thought we were excellent today, we went at them from the off and the team and crowd combined to ensure that heads didn't drop after going one down.

Hard to pick a man of the match today with so many good performances, but great to see Toal back, we've been crying out for a proper centre half to pay alongside Rico. Sheehan is technically head and shoulders above most of this league and instead of dropping him for the more physical games, just make sure he's protected by the rest of the group. FWIW he got stuck in today against a fairly physical unit.

As for those getting impatient and wanting it in the mixer, you're wasting your breath. It's not the Evatt way and I never doubted we'd get a winner today.

Worth pointing out that the support all around the ground was superb today too.

Won 4 and drawn 1 of 6 so far.
Joint top.
Second highest scorers in the league.
Booooooooo, Evatt out.

Don't be writing Derby off just yet - they are going to be a force in this league when they get their full team together. Three starters missing today including Wilson plus their late signing Embleton was ineligible. They caused chaos in our box, could have at least one more penalty for handball and we rode our luck a lot at times. Plus we couldn't break down their defence all game, even when they were down to 10. Even our penalty looked outside the box and as for D-Cs cross.... the more I watch it the more freakish it looks.

It was our day today and I'm extremely grateful for that but let's be honest - we didn't exactly whup them and in the end we were grateful to survive their late onslaught on our box.

Anyone not reckon they won't be up there by the end of the season?

It's all about our performance though and today we were much better, but even so it highlighted quite a few areas we still need to improve on.

We won. It's 3 points. We learn and move on.

Not seen any of the game 'thinly veiled I am in kefalonia' but wheres all the 'must win game or evatt under big pressure, evatt cant motivate, we can forget promotion if we dont win, evatt cant beat top teams brigade?    This lot want to hang their heads in shame, pathetic excuses of bwfc fans and exactly what mr evatt was talking about at the start of the season when he spoke about 'being entitled' .

I thought Bolton's most important player was Thomasson. His strength and aggression was the difference between Bolton competing in midfield and losing  the battle as they did against Wigan. On that showing Thomasson needs to be the first midfielder picked against the bigger clubs because without George's aggression Sheehan doesn't get the ball enough to produce his 8/10 performance.

A lack of attacking intent from Derby helped, they seemed content to defend and hope for something from a set piece.Their fans probably feel a club of Derby's size should be playing more ambitiously in the 3rd Division.

It was good to win a big match against a big club at this level.Bolton went the whole of last season without winning a match like that.

Just because we won does not make him right, we regressed substantially after he made the subs to the point we were hanging on against 10 men.

Bringing dan & jerome on made it hard for us as neither of them have the ability to hold onto the ball, Gomes for Cogley was bizarre

Charles is the key because without putting too much of a negative spin on things we don’t have much in reserve in that department now till January

but yes we won good seeing you
