Favourite Player at BWFC ever, and Why?

Alan Thompson was my first favourite. Cried when he left. Blakey too.

Davies favourite ever. Such an important player for us, played for the badge and was integral to our highest modern day highest heights.

Throw in Gudni, Ricky and Jussi obviously.

Bruno was great.

Loved Ricketts for 18 months too.

Taddy. The first to reveal to a doubtful public what future greatness awaited us if we brought foreign players in. He blazed like a burning comet, swooping over our dull landscape in the late 70s, and defined the orbits of future cosmic spectacles -  such as JJ, Youri etc. The fact that he is now drinking turps substitute through a tramp's sock in the backstreets of Wroclaw should never diminish from this. Neither should the fact that he was fundamentally shite. Trailblazers are often the least appreciated - and in his case, the least talented. But he was a giant upon whose shoulders the rest stood, and thus were able to see so far.

Frankie was my idol when I was younger but to throw another one in there from my youth.... Peter Thompson, absolutely unplayable at times, a joy to watch & an absolute gent too.

Exact same for me

Frankie best I’ve seen but nobody put a defender on his arse like Thommo

McGinlay was the first player I idolised as a kid, but Gudni is my favourite of all time. Oozed class and was consistent as fuck. Probably a rose-tinted view, but don't remember him ever having a bad game. Bumped into him on Middlebrook the day before the Play-Off final against Preston and he was a proper nice bloke too.

Was staying in a hotel in Iceland and got talking to an Icelandic bloke

Got onto the subject of football as you do and I mentioned I'm a Bolton fan

He says he knows Gudni through work. Was before he was on the FA and think he was a lawyer

Says I can ring him up and have a chat. His mobile is ringing and I'm getting all nervous wondering what I will say

Went to answer phone

Oops. Misread it. Thought you'd ended your post halfway through a sentence. 😁

Bang on that. You just need to be of a certain generation to appreciate John Byrom 🙂

Loved everything about him. Offbeat humour; working on the black in the off season (and getting injured once hod carrying) often delivering Warby's bread; genius finisher.

Can you imagine Harry Kane or Cristiano Ronaldo carrying a hod? What a man.

There's a player in our team and he is a goal machine and his name is John Byrom ...John Byrom ,  Byrom

Brilliant , he'd waltz around the keeper in a one on one and then wave to the crowd before stroking the ball into an empty net .

He's my fave player ( just popped Gudni and Ricardo to number 1 spot )

As for best player , that half season from Fernando Hierro, when big Sam pushed him into the holding midfield player , he was class, so much time on the ball , never gave the ball away . I wish he'd stayed 1 more season .

Kevin Nolan, one of our own. Scoring at old Trafford 2 seasons running and us winning. Nearly crippling Robbie Savage away at Blackburn Monday night in 2005 with a two footed tackle. Loved him, gutted when he left, honestly thought he was one of the top midfielders in the country, wasn't a shit bag either.

His equaliser at Annfield was pretty special too.

Favourite ever has to be Frankie idolised him as a boy .I remember him coming in to fourgates school to a detector something and signing autographs proper superstar.

Favourite of modern era has to be gudni. I had the pleasure of meeting him at Stansted airport after the Arsenal away 1-1 the game when Gardner got sent off.

My daughter who was nine at the time had just had a major op , I rang her and gudni spoke to her and wished her well I took a photo of him on the phone talking to her and she still has it in a frame.

Best player ever to wear a white shirt, (but perhaps not at his best when here): Hierro without doubt…..legend of the game.

Best player ever who was at his peak with us: Okocha……skills I could only have dreamed of seeing.

All time favourite: SJM……gave (and gives) his heart and soul for the club.

When you get a reminder of the great players we have had lots of them evoke a memory.

Three Bolton players on the big picture at Real Madrid.

White Hot. SKD's England cap.

Big Frank signing from Leicester. The Late Great Gary Speed.

Two penalty saves by Jussi.

Even the fact that Ricco Gardner was like Bambi when he first came, all legs and elbows.

To think some tinpot no-marks wanted us shut down.
