The question about 'who would you have signed then with the budget available' isn't realistic to answer as, unless I'm wrong, none of us have access to what that budget was and the full list of available or potentially available players at the time. Yes we might know about who'd been released over Summer but we wouldn't know about all the players we might have been able to sign for money or get on loan.

Its still reasonable, I'd have thought, to be able to come on here and say you're not convinced by a signing without being asked to produce a list of alternatives.

At the end of the day it's down to Evatt's quite specific requirements of a player.  We might all want a player, say a LWB, to be able to do certain things (like defend a bit), if that's not what Evatt wants he won't sign him. It's down then to whether Evatt subsequently sees it's not working and has a rethink about a position or the wider shape and structure.

All the talk about Stockton never came to anything, maybe because of money, more likely Evatt didn't see him as his kind of striker (neither did I for what it's worth). Similar with Clarke-Harris, good at what he does if you're prepared to construct the team to feed him while he trundles around the box at jogging pace but not Evatt's type.

Williams wasn't playing towards the end of last season.

Only when he became a makeshift centre half dud he get back in.

Midfield is essentially the same as last season.

Thats another myth. He played 28 times for us last season, Kieron Lee 32. How is the midfield  the same then? None have these two have been replaced. Added to the fact George J, who played 36 times, wasnt replaced, knowing full well he was out for the  season, that is bad management!

Dear me, go back and look at Williams' appearances. They dropped off towards the end of the season. I made no comment as to the number of appearances he did make.

In the end, it was clear that Evatt wasn't going to be using Lee or Williams to any great extent. Didn't agree with it, but that was the way his selections were going.

Like it or not, Thomason was going to occupy the Williams berth once the Summer came.

Hence the midfield that we predominantly use now, contains the same players as last season.

Two new lads have been brought in, but they're not of the type that many reckon we need.

Hes played once for us, 23 games in his whole career. Do you think thats an adequate replacement for George?

You can't just panic sign like-for-like replacements every time a player gets injured in pre-season. What if the replacement gets injured in his first training session? Do you sign another?

Jones will miss three games after a rash challenge on winger Ricky Jade-Jones was punished with a straight red card by referee Ross Joyce.

i think evatt thought santos, forrester, jones, toal, ashworth, iredale was enough to cover 3 positions

hardly massively controversial

i'll also say that i think johnston was more likely to leave than stay if he hadnt been injured

TBF in Iredale there was already an experienced left sided centre half to slot in and Forrester and Jones to cover him even without bringing someone new in

I got that wrong too, thought it would be 1 game.  Also, given the weight of opinion that Jones deserved a red, I'll back down from saying it should have been a yellow and take the majority view, including that of IE.

Next question is does the ban include cup games?  I read that "unlike yellow cards, a ban from a red card will apply to all domestic competitions" but that was talking about Prem rules.  I'm unsure if that's the case with EFL given that we have such a tinpot cup that there will be arguments you shouldn't be able to use it reduce the impact of a red card ban.

Same here. Can't find EFL rules. No matter what you google, every result is Prem based. EFL website doesn't even have a rules section, other than financial stuff. Shite. Jones and Thomasson are eligible for tomorrow night though.
