It’s an interesting one as from all accounts as Ipswich seem to be finding it a bit easier as it’s more gung Ho. Plymouth finding their feet (I suspect we’d be the same) and Sheff Wed are just a car crash.

Aye big contrast in the promoted teams

i know changes was made but boro at home in the cup was an eye opener, we competed in periods but they moved the ball around bloody quick from one end to the other big fitness levels

Yeah agreed. Wasn’t good. That said I’ll take it in isolation.

We’ve a job to do this season first and we should do it.

Next season is a long time away and I suspect the team would be different by then.

Absolutely most of the current team will struggle, but let’s get this job done first

Boro are a tip level championship team, so you'd expect them to be beyond where we are now.

Let's not forget we were just a few minutes from beating them, even if they did have an excellent second half.

No doubt this team wouldn't be pushing at the top end of the league above, but it doesn't matter.

Get up, reinforce, and go again.

I agree, getting up is the job in hand, not building a team for a division we might not get to.

On the Boro game, presume you mean a few minutes from extra time rather than a win?  It was 1-1 at H-T and they absolutely pinned us back in the 2nd half, with the odd breakaway, they were very impressive yet only got 2 points from their 1st 7 games.

Aye, that's the fella.

They're going great guns now too. Shows not to be too impulsive with managers, especially at the beginning of the season.

Sheehan for me

I remember I was on the fence when he was up for renewal as I always felt his injury timing on an injury was horrific. He’s been brilliant this season.

I still worry about the physical aspects and his ability to cope.

Would definitely need good movement from team mates etc -just that bit better.

At 28, he's probably at his peak, and how much can he improve?

We'll only really find out if we manage promotion I suppose.

I think it's a less physical league and more technical so expect some players to step up no problem

But

Fitness will be key and last season or so I thought we were ok in that regard, particularly with all the late onslaughts, but we've already had issues on that front this season after a couple of months

Not getting into the Sheehan debate as such, but when I see the championship games it looks much more physical and fast than L1.  Taking Boro as the eg when we played them, they were streets ahead of any other team we've played physically and in speed of movement and thought.  That midfielder Matt Crooks is a beast, our players were bouncing off him and couldn't dispossess him, not because of skill, just sheer size and strength.

Yeah echo what others say it’s more technical in the championship, someone called it few weeks back maybe Daz he’s similar to mark Davies in his play

To be honest, I've never wholly bought into this idea that lower leagues can be more physical.

At the top level, you have the best technical players combined with tremendous fitness.

I think with the lower leagues, the lesser technical ability means that players may get "hit" as they don't get away from opponents so easily.

Top level, with better technique, vision and movement, an opponent has to be intelligent too, and can't necessarily go into challenges the same, or they'll get by-passed.

One thing about Arsenal or City, is the speed they close down, but without necessarily flying into challenges, to get the ball back quickly. The best of the best if you like, where even the more flair players work off the ball.

Obviously the championship is not at that level, but it nevertheless will test the likes of Sheehan, and whether his technique is high enough to cope with that quicker/more intelligent closing down, because in general at 5 feet seven, he isn't holding off an opponent physically.

Would definitely be helped by good movement and sharpness by players in front of him- which may need another striker for starters.
