Underpants Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 (edited) Halloween fancy dress was once ghosts, vampires and werewolves. Wtf has this shit got to do with the Halloween? Yet another pointless US thing creeping into our lives folk dressing up as folk. Edited November 1, 2023 by Underpants Quote

It just seems odd, for Halloween, that folk seem to want to dress up as someone famous instead of choosing something "halloweeny". What's the point? Quote
Traf Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 Halloween is all bollocks. Trick or treat? How about you fuck off? Quote

To sell shitloads of plastic tat that goes to landfill after a few days of use. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 (edited) Grump - i love it - decked out the full front garden, got included on the local primary school list of happy to treat or treat houses. Loads of little kids had a great time - and one very happy delievery driver who got some sweets as well! We also have loads of Halloween decs that, like xmas, we keep all year round - and most of it isn't plastic - ceramic stuff, fabric pumpkins - all very lovely - and keeping them up until the weekend. Esp the ghost tea light holders - love them! Edited November 2, 2023 by Not in Crawley Quote

Sweep Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 We put a polite notice at the end of our drive, advising people we weren't partaking. And we didn't get pestered once, which was nice. There were dozens of the fuckers wandering around the village, scrounging sweets this year as well. To be fair, all of them under parental control, which was good. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 Well, we enjoyed our little party and winter spoooooky BBQ Quote
Traf Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 It's OK, if you've got kids, but grown-ups dressing up without kids is weird. Quote

Our kids are teenagers and we were the only ones that dressed up...well, I have a skull and crossbones suit jacket😁 On actual Halloween I had a PN, but london was rammed with kids (ie 20 odd year olds) going to parties, fair play. I always thought that the unwritten rule of trick-or-treat is if you put a pumpkin outside your front door, or put anything up Halloweeny that can be seen by passerbys, then you are advertising the fact you are trick-or-treat friendly 🤔 Knocking on doors with no ghosts, ghouls or Beckham's on show are out of order. The other half put a pumpkin out and we got about four different groups and a box of celebrations did the job We do live at the bottom of a cul-de-sac so it's just neighbouring kids and even if there was no pumpkin we'd do the same If we lived on a main road I doubt kids would give a fuck about anything Halloween on show and would just do it anyway as I'm not sure there is an unwritten rule We didn't as kids Didn't get anyone dressed as Beckham either Quote

Yeah I thought same. The local Facebook/neighbourhood Karen site is in total uproar here at the moment as a gang of kids went on a pumpkin wrecking spree and have wrecked their little darlings dreams. It's pure outrage. Duck Egg Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I'd never even heard of trick or treat until we moved to Bolton when I was about 12 and never partook in it. Feel like I missed out a bit somehow. We get shedloads of sweets in every year but this year was the 1st where we've had anyone for a while. Some herbert with a face mask and a bloody hockey stick which seemed in pretty poor taste I thought. Quote
