Wanderlust
Since standing in after the departure of Sam Hird, Craddock seems to have done a decent job as interim first team coach. The last few games, we seem to have improved a bit and the winning streak hasn't done his chances of taking the job permanently any harm. We certainly seem to better going forward but maybe that's just me. The club is still looking for someone to do the job but I can't see any reason why they should look any further than Matt albeit a relatively short tenure. Anyone have an opinion on the matter? Mounts Kipper
Difficult if they don’t pick Craddock, would he hang around if he was overlooked? Doubt it so is think he’d get the job.

Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted November 10, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted November 10, 2023 Good news and well deserved. Feel a bit for the other applicants mind, as I don't reckon they were in with much of a chance. Still, that's life I suppose.

I think it's important to recognise a something from IE and the press release: "we want a culture where we promote from within." "Culture" is a big word that a lot of employers don't get right. What does it say to loyal, capable employees, if they're qualified to take on a role but get snubbed in favour of an external "name"? Not that Craddock eould necessarily kick off if he was unsuccessful; I don't know the guy. But why take the risk? Good luck, Matt.
Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted November 11, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted November 11, 2023 Can't argue that we've got 1 or 2 more strings to our bow over the last month or so. Whether that's down to Craddock or not, who knows. Assuming the guy is qualified enough for the role, trusted by Evatt and Co and the players think he's decent, then good luck to him. Loads of top coaches are people I'd never heard of until given a chance
Traf
Happy enough to see Craddock keep the job, but I’m not particularly arsed who got it as long as we keep progressing. We could have saved time going through the ‘process’ by just promoting him last month, though.

It reminds me a bit of our hiring a global sports agency to conduct a six-month long search for a stadium sponsor only to find the best offer coming from a company based in Chequerbent 🙂

Anyway, they would have adopted the procedure they did as they felt it was for the best. Done with now.
Gonk
If you dont adverise the job then as a business you're not making the most of the opprtunity, There could have been an outstanding applicant who is disaffected as his current club that could have applied. Site Supporter Cheese Posted November 19, 2023 Site Supporter Share Posted November 19, 2023 https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/23932417.bolton-wanderers-boss-defends-first-team-coach-selection/ Evatt explained: “I can understand the outside perception that it would be a safe and easy appointment, but it has been completely the opposite. We have had a thorough and diligent process which has taken a lengthy period of time. “You had the initial applications, then the first filter, we then went through tasks where we sent the applicants games and asked them to give us some detail about what our philosophy and identity looks like, things like that. “We had lots of impressive presentations, so we filtered again and spoke to the candidates individually, which brought the field down further. “And all the way through that process, Matt has been the outstanding candidate. That is just the way it is. “We are not short-sighted enough to say ‘well, we had good results, let’s just select Matt’. It is not about form, it is about processes and appointing the best man for the job at the stage we are at, and he is that man. “I am excited now to see what new ideas he can bring to the table. He is an excellent coach and we’re sure he will be a valuable addition.”

It is healthy to advertise for coaching positions and in this case they should now have good candidates for his old role.
