At home we've conceded 17 compared to 13 in whole of last season. But yes, away from home a different story, conceded 7 in 11 games compared to 23 in 23 last year. I meant away obvs. Quote

And if I'm not mistaken the only goal we've conceded in the 1st half was that one at Pompey, unheard of. Quote

Point is, for as long as I can remember, it's our away form that trips us up. I expect us to win every home game 😁, but if we keep this away form up, well.... Quote

Theres definitely a few doom mongers looking for negative angles on here Even the home goals conceded, 5 of them are meaningless 7 goals, but 2 were enough for us to lose those games Id rather we lost 2 0 than protect a 1 nil defeat! Couldn't agree more. Not sure why there's any focus on goals scored and conceded, or number of clean sheets. Irrelevant unless we're overly concerned with goal difference. Points the only thing that matters. Those 7 goals v Exeter were great entertainment, but just one at Oxford would have been an extra 2 points. And that's coming from someone that likes a good stat, but always in the knowledge that its only the position in the league that counts, everything else is just chat. Quote
Moderators Zico Posted January 6, 2024 Moderators Posted January 6, 2024 Been looking at fixtures It was always going to happen given we ended up playing so many at home at the start of the season But February/march 8 out of 12 away up to good Friday Tough run that Quote
Gonk Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 Our away form is no worse better than our home form? Home 9- 1 - 3, away 7 - 2 - 2 Wigan / Carlisle / Bristol Rovers vs Reading / Portsmouth Quote
onefinfrandsen Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 Just gone through our remaining fixtures and I get us to 91 points going into our last game at Peterborough, this includes draws to Blackpool and Wigan and defeats to Barnsley and derby. Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 (edited) If we beat Pompey and Derby champs, if we draw them most likely second. Lose them and it’s not automatic. I’ll take second all day long. I’m going for champions but we must beat Pompey. Edited February 12, 2024 by Mounts Kipper Quote

Weird league everyone has a result in them. Orient, Exeter, reading, all in form and could have a say in who finishes top six, wouldn’t rule out being champions. Quote
captainmed Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 2nd or 3rd. The 5 aways out of 6 after these two home games will define our season. Desperately need Ray to start scoring too. Quote

Lostock Whites Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 (edited) I personally believe that it's us and Pompey, we've been the best and most consistent teams, whether we finish 1st or 2nd I am not sure. We both play the best football and have had the best January window. Although Pompey's squad is much thinner than ours. Derby have a very experienced but old squad, they've been extremely poor in a lot of their games and play a much worse brand of football. The game against them we do dominated, they looked poor with 29% of the ball, even before the red card in the 2nd half. Most of their wins are dictated by moments of individual quality against poor sides. Derby also only have 1 real fit striker atm, whereas we have 5. Saying all this, the least confident I am for a game left this season is Derby away, we never bloody won there. Peterborough are a much better footballing side than Derby, however they're vastly inexperienced and have not recruited well at all in January. They also lost ex wanderer Peter Kioso at RB, their captain, and didn't really replace him. Recent results support this, they've lost 3 in a row and have been battered by struggling Wycombe 5-2. Barnsley in my opinion could be an even greater threat to the top 2, as their form suggests. They're a well balanced side and are always there or thereabouts. Don't think Stevenage, Oxford or Blackpool will threaten the top 2 personally. In summary, I'd be surprised but like most of us, genuinely frustrated if we cannot get top 2 from now on, especially after the board have backed Evatt wholeheartedly. Whitesince63 Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 With the squad we have top two should be a cert but I have a fear that we could miss out through internal unrest. Once Rico and Will Forester are back playing and George is through his latest suspension, we’re going to have too many players to even fit on the bench. What’s the score with the likes of Taylor and Ramsey because I don’t think their clubs would be too happy if they aren’t playing and from what I’ve seen of Ramsey so far he certainly wouldn’t for me. With Rico, Forester and Toal fit nor would Taylor. We don’t know but it looks like Bods out of favour for some reason and it doesn’t take much for unrest to spread if players expecting to play aren’t and are not even on the bench. I’m not trying to be negative here because I believe we’ve got a squad more than capable of top two if we play the right players but I just have this fear that we might just trip ourselves up by favouring loans who probably wont even be here next year over our own who will. Thought for a while, the only team that'll stop us going up top 2 is ourselves. If we can stay out of our own way, we'll be ok Quote
Site Supporter Cheese Posted February 12, 2024 Site Supporter Posted February 12, 2024 (edited) We've not done so bad given the tinkering and disruption forced by injuries, internationals and weather. That'll all be a distant memory soon enough and we'll be back on track. Other results have gone our way too, so a little bit of luck involved. Still think we'll win the League. Whitesince63 Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 Hope so cheese we’ve definitely got the squad to do it so let’s hope we can pick the right players to get there? We’ve suddenly gone from famine to feast with the squad so we shouldn’t hopefully have to worry too much about injuries going forward. 🤗 Quote
