Earphones/headsets

The wife is looking for some noise cancelling earphones/headsets which block out background noise for the other person when on a call so they can't hear dog barking/baby crying etc, any recommendations?

Wouldn’t that be a noise cancelling microphone rather than headphone? I’ve never heard of such a thing but a quick Google search of ‘headphones with noise cancelling mic’ shows they exist. Whether they work or not is down to what you buy, I guess.

You can pay as much as you want and generally the dearer they are the better they are, such as Bose.

 

... but Amazon's Echo Buds are very good IMO.  usually around £130 but you can often pick them up at half price when Amazon have one of their sales.

You've hit the bail on the head! It's a noise cancelling mic I need, me and technology just don't get on, cheers.

You need a directional microphone, not sure if you can get this with buds etc. No doubt there will be AI/software that could do this.

As for noise cancelling in your ears, I've used Shure Se205's (in ear) for years and Sony MX4 (overear), both are excellent on planes 😁

I’ve got some Plantronics ones for work, which make me look like I have a job in a call centre. However, a few people have mentioned they are good at cancelling background noise.

If she doesn’t work at home or in an office it might be a bit odd though - popping these on in a coffee shop. I saw someone walking across London Bridge with a pair on and he looked a right bellend. It wasn’t me.
