That's not right, but we need a leader whi can be pragmatic as well as an idealist.

My constant worry is that Evatt isn't bright enough to lead a club of this size, and tactics are a minimum. But I just don't believe he believes it.

And that's why we always come up short when we need it. It's happened for years under his watch and it's not surprising.

That's a good point.

Folk call him stubborn and arrogant.

I just think he's a bit thick.

Just woke up and still can't believe how bad we were

Absolutely gutted.A lot needs to change not just because of what we witnessed yesterday but what kept on happening through out the season. Some hard decisions need to be made with quite a few of the players they are simply not good enough when push comes to shove

Maybe we need a complete reset and formation,IE has been sussed and if we carry on as we are I can only see a mid table finish next season

Are people really blaming fans who went on the pitch after the semi for anything that happened today ?

Or the post match reaction of the players ?

4 or 5 times this season we have produced lifeless performances, today was just on a bigger stage .

Yes, my main fear leading up to this was that we threw in a clunker of a performance fairly regularly over the season.

Disappointed we chose yesterday to chuck another in is understating things a bit .

No Greg he is just stubborn and arrogant. He never learns, won’t deviate from his methods, even during games when it’s blindingly obvious it’s not working. That’s not leadership and neither is retaining a 6’5” giant as a captain who only leads by example in slowing the game down and failing to inspire anyone. Some on here have criticised Brannigan but that’s exactly what we’re missing. He went out there to win battles and he did. That’s how you win finals not hiding at the back passing sideways. That’s all Evatt inspired and it needs to stop and it won’t as long as Evatt’s in charge.

This is an odd post, you dismiss fans saying it came down to bottle, but then give the reasons we lost as being outfought, players not putting in enough effort and playing like fancy Dan's on the day.... this is exactly what people mean when they talk about bottle.

We didn't play to our potential, and haven't on almost all big occasions this season. No reason for that other than poor mentality. Or not having the bottle for it

He thinks he’s posted that on the Oxford site.

Still flat after that debacle. The whole team were poor. Our tactics were poor and our game plan non existent.

Evatt has been out thought time and again this season.

I'm not one for knee jerk reactions and love Evatt but I'm not sure he's got it in him to alter things enough to get us up.

We don't need wholesale changes but a couple of tweeks here and there needed.

Said for months I don't rate Santos or Jones. Them 2 first out the door this summer if I was in charge.

We need a re-set

In terms of leadership, yesterday showed exactly where it's missing.

Think either Evatt has to go, or Santos be sold on, and the team re-jigged. We simply cant play this tactic next year or we're going nowhere.

I'm guessing we have signed Ogbeta seen as he was released the day before by Swansea, they knew to attack that side and that became clear after 3/4 mins.. Iredale should have been on sooner..

PM wasn't playing right from the start, something should have been done sooner.

We've had too many players that have apparently fallen "out of favour" and it's an underlying sign that somethings not right, no give, no admitting to mistakes, and a leader needs to admit when they're wrong.

Don't disagree with any of that Sincey.

I just think as well as stubborn etc. the inability to recognise that we can't always play "our way" and the fact that he doesn't react soon enough in game is down to a bit of cluelessness too.

Yesterday was a second chance we shouldn't have needed.

It was all about winning and that alone.

Not winning pretty, just winning.

Now that I totally agree on. 😁

Iredale for Sheehan will go down in history as one of the most mental substitutions I’ve ever seen.

Was a full change of positions, Iredale to the back with collins dropping into attacking midfield, it appeared to be that it was then Jones and cogley as wing backs with toal switching to the other side..

to be fair it improved the game but not enough.

Their goals came from Cogley not defending against that Murphy then a long ball through the middle that none of our dynamic CB’s could deal with.

Like Biggish said we need an overhaul

Biggish didn’t say that just a few tweaks… and I agree, Johnstone at left CB will me massive upgrade on this season… 2 new wing backs…and a proper brute in midfield,  is Evatt the man to do it I’m not so sure…. He’s beginning to look like a Phil Neal and not a Bruce Rioch.  Anyhow I’m so disinterested in next season, got my ST but couldn’t care less if I didn’t see another game until after Christmas.

Fuck Maghoma, we need a proper 90 minute centre mid with experience.

He shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence as rioch

If Evatt is still in charge going into next season, it won't be easy to get promoted either, Birmingham will be on a mission and they've got Rowett in as manager, Huddersfield will be up there too, certainly won't be a walk in the park.

IE has previously admitted in interviews to trying to ape the way Man City and Liverpool play, his issues are thus:

- Your players need to be skilled enough to play that way

- Your coaches need to be able to train into this system and they need to be able to bring players into it from scratch(this is the reason behind the "he'll be better after a full preseason" nonsense).

It's clear the club doesn't have the pull to bring in either these players or the coaches, with it being in League 1 and having limited resources. Even if IE understands what better managers are doing (which i doubt) fundementally he lacks the above, nothing will change that. Many of the players he has are good or even great at this level...but that's it.

To the people saying we've gotten better each year im not sure we have, first year back in League 1 it's mid table, second year we get lucky (if we're honest) with 2 top end loans, we scrape the play offs, and third year it's solid play offs but it's a weaker League 1 and we seem to be getting worse the longer the season went on.

He has to go. his arrogance is holding us back.

Heard all the same about him being a Pep disciple, which is fine, but he's not fully buying in and not as prepared to evolve and adapt as Pep has been, to keep ahead of the rivals.

Pep has always had a good, experienced, physical DM in front of his back three, to protect them and lead the break up of opponents play (Fernandinho, Rodri). Having Sheehan in that role is ok against weak sides who sit back against us. Oxford by no means the first time to rumble us by rattling into him from minute 1. If he loses it and our back three are exposed they actually aren't very good.

Pep's wing backs are strong, have physicality and are able to defend (he's had a CB (Gvardiol) there lately). Ours are piss weak and found wanting against any decent, robust wide man

Pep's seen that he's needed to find other ways to score than just passing teams to death, after a period where he didn't seem to fancy a big striker, he got Haaland and the different threats he poses. Our strikers are all brought in to play a certain way, offering a bit better version of the same but nothing new

Finally, Pep's looked at the general physicality of his team and beefed it up, particularly to add more aerial threat from set pieces. We are still soft, easily bullied and scared of our own shadows.

In short, Pep-lite (maybe too lite) I suppose. Evatt needs to recognise those needs to adapt, over the next few days, and convince his bosses (not too difficult) and us (much harder) that he can see them and is prepared to implement them.
