Not a fan of plug generally, but he was right last night.

Southgate has done well (decent record) but if he is to play conservative, risk-averse football, then ultimately it has to yield success.

Players are better than they showed and have to be given opportunity to show what they can do.

Kane was wasted playing like that: he will score goals galore if given chances, but won't chase about, and stretch a team.

Saka had a decent first half, but made poor choices with his passing when overlapping players were available, then disappeared.

Rice hasn't looked overly comfortable in possession all tournament.

Bellingham in and out.

Some have seemed knackered, when other nations players haven't. Maybe they used the squad more fully.

First half against the Dutch arguably the best, but overall performances were disappointing.

We were more attacking and fluid in Russia, but seemed to have become more negative.

Shame.

Never seen him give the ball away as much as last night

Why’s there no in game comments or celebrations for our goal? Just full of folk moaning (nowt knew here). Is that genuine or comments taken down?

Anyway…… 58 years on, strangely the hurt get’s less for me, maybe it’s a bit of reality or maturity, but I don’t feel as bad as I did in 1990.

Don’t get me wrong, I care and would have loved it and partied longer last night if we’d won

But I’m quite reflective this morning in a positive way. Overall getting to the final was a very decent effort. Best team won.

I'd be as reflective if we played to our potential, but there's more in that squad than we've seen this tournament. That's the frustration.

Too negative, players being shoehorned into positions and not giving enough time to non starters.

Same.

Id dearly love us to win a trophy but I’m past that point where it feels like utter devastation when we don’t. Definitely an age thing ☺️

Not sure if that was down to weak mentality of the players or if it was instructions from GS. I don't suppose we'll ever know.

Instructions. It's too consistent to be anything else.

He's a dull, defensive minded, fckr.

I disagree.

Would love to be proved wrong in the USA. But for me it could be Klopp, Jose, Ancelotti, BSA, Howe or Carsley, I’m not convinced anyone will win it for us.

It’ll be same old same old. Fast forward 2 years and the thread will look the same. Unhappy people moaning and telling the manager how it should have been done to win the World Cup.

Do agree with your point about the ref blowing too early. Proper annoyed me that last night

He deserves nothing but praise.

Nonsense.

He deserves plenty of praise & criticism where it’s due. He’s not immortal.

Best team won. Spain were brilliant on their side of the draw.

We had the potential to be better.

Anyway… it’s done 🙂

I’d just like to experience England and Bolton winning a major trophy before I shuffle off. Bolton preferably but beggars can’t be choosers.

See, that's exactly why i don't get too disappointed with England failure, because i support BWFC.

The problem with England is the media coverage, they hype it up to fever pitch and people fall for it every time. I don’t get taken in by it too much but I do think this is the best set of mdf/fwd players we’ve ever had imo.

Kane is too slow and lumbered about. Convinced he is injured. It’s a shame but he has never won anything because he stops the play. When he went off we looked a bigger threat

I don’t think it’s as mental as it was in the 90’s.

That was peak hype I think. Newspapers with headlines like “Fritz, for you ze euros are over” with a picture of El Tel dressed as a Tommy.

Now it’s just over analysed rather than the delirium of pasting Jonny Foreigner.

What I found annoying throughout were the comment peeps.

They effectively told the viewing public off for not appreciating the drudge football during the group phase, then they piled on. Then resumed with the positivity & each match Englabd won they  were World beaters, even if the play had been turgid. Last minute winners, on penalties, whatever.

They talked yesterday up but then, after the game, played into the team/manager.

Be consistent ffs.

There weren't that many in game comments at all.

Do you not think folk were just watching and celebrating/shouting etc?

Folk are entitled to call it as they see it, and despite us doing well, overall it was uninspiring. Maybe that's why we don't feel the same disappointment- we don't win tournaments.

Gareth Southgate seems a thoroughly good bloke, who has worked well in the youth, brought players through, and arguably has them more "together" and playing for England than we've seen for many years. Squad seem to like him.

Sadly, players seemingly restricted like a dog on an anchored chain has been his undoing.

Proboably the same reason you didn't post any in-game comments. 🤷‍♂️

I'd not be surprised he also stunk up Spurs Champions League final playing while injured.

it’s not as though Kane looked just sightly off the pace. He looked completely fucked from minute one of the first match. We know he’s dropped deep in the past but would then bust a gut to get back up with play. This tournament he was dropping deep but then unable / unwilling to sprint at all. How Southgate and Kane himself allowed it to continue is ridiculous.

A great call on the radio just then highlighting the issue of us not producing a proper ball playing midfielder that dictates the game.

We just don't seem to value them in this country. Rodri, Jorginho, Modric have all done us in finals/semis.

We never valued Carrick enough and same with Scholes who criminally got stuck out wide.

Rice is just not a proper 6. He doesn't play there for Arsenal and he can barely pass a ball.

Until we unearth a Rodri or Kroos we will always come short in the big games.

Well that would be a first! 🤣.

I’m very rarely on here during any game I’m watching and emotionally invested in.

I’ve been shot down before for expressing my surprise and criticising In-game comments, as I don’t really get it. People are generally venting, inconsistent and over emotional. And more to the point, spending most of their time typing and reading rather than watching the game!

But I’ve learnt we are all different and some are very protective over their right to comment in-game. Some have gone as far as to express their talents at being able to multi-task during a game.

And for me it usually makes for some funny reading back later in the day or the morning after.

Which is why I’m surprised there was a chunk of the game not being commented upon.

Maybe as said above everyone was just too busy celebrating 🙂
