noxid Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Preseason is purely for getting all the players physically and mentally ready for the new season, trying out some in various positions, building team morale and checking out a few trialists. It's not about playing your best 11 and winning every match, although a win is always better than a loss. Nobody will remember this result in two weeks time. My main worry is that Dempsey isn't a serious injury and Charles is back soon and we get about four quality signings before the window shuts Quote
Wanderlust Posted July 21 Posted July 21 I'm not bothered if our B team and some fringe players lose to Boro. I wouldn't have been overly upset if our first team lost to Boro. I don't see what the problem is, especially in a warm-up game. Quote

Don’t get me wrong, if we’re into November and off the pace then questions will need to be asked and answered. But the craziness we’re going to have to face before that in pre-season defeats and in moments in games when there’s a mistake or poor play and folk start bellowing at Evatt and the players is going to be unbearable. It’s making me think twice about Orient and Charlton etc. I’ll end up spending most of my time arguing with folk. I pray to God we make a decent start and Evatt gets it right from the off. Great point, and for me is why they should have parted ways in summer. Fresh start and get the fans back on board. Instead I'm not looking forward to taking the kids to games this season when it starts getting toxic. They've only been going last 3 seasons and it's all been positive (till Wembley). Quote
bolton in bedford Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Don’t take much notice of pre-season, though I do think last season was the year we were supposed to go up. I’m expecting this season to be one to build for another charge at it the following season so 10th at best and play offs a bonus. There are much stronger teams this year too. I hope I am a wrong, but either way I’ll not be getting on the back of players or the manager. Quote
gonzo Posted July 21 Posted July 21 (edited) All I've read is folk kicking off about folk kicking off and nobody is actually kicking off. Like that Mandela effect. Edited July 21 by gonzo Quote

Only we could have a debate about if folk are kicking off about kicking off in pre season when perhaps no one is kicking off and merely speculated a lack of confidence 😂. Even though I fully agree on the play offs miss this year, it actually makes us a bit sad that a fair few seem to agree. I’ve always been concerned we are predictable under Evatt and it’s not good if people are calling the same outcome. Still early days and all that though. Quote

It's certainly got that Dougie Freedman feel about it. An end of season fuck up/let down just leads to a summer of ill-feeling and apathy. We should all be looking forward to a new season but the prospect of Santos stood on the ball and our crowd moaning and groaning fills me with dread. Our style of play doesn't offer much to get the crowd going either. Just have to hope we come out the traps firing with loads of intent. Quote

Get a grip . If Evatt loses a few games early doors do you think his potential sacking will end happily given our morbid history of panic sackings ? It shouldnt be a panic sacking, he should have been sacked after Wembley. Quote

Pissed up last night, so my quoting of you wasn’t intended to be argumentative more about bringing 3 people I know into my line of thought and sharing your frustrations. I was quoting you and gonzo and M because like you I’m concerned about how this season starts and not convinced it’s going to go well. You won’t be the ones booing them and throwing insults at them, but we know there will be plenty that will. Anyway when do those Orient tickets come on sale 😉 Quote

I'd not have been disappointed if he'd gone after Wembley, but he's not so let's hope he's learned, made a few tweaks (3 up top yesterday) and we get off to a flyer. Quote

The easy option for him would be to have walked but he’s shown some balls tbf orient I’m guessing next week pal Quote

Could be, but I think a new man would have got a bit more leeway. Does seem like the tweak to formation is 523, rather than 532 all the time. That would leave us so weak in midfield though and I just don't know what Evatt has against 433. Quote

The guy is more than good enough for a promotion winning League 1 team. When he defends, he’s one of the best in the league. Prone to an occasional mistake, but League 1 players are (otherwise they’d be in the Champ). He (we) need to get rid of this tactic of slowing down (stopping) at the back to invite the press. Let’s be honest - he MUST have been told to do that, Shirley? Quote
