He knows me better than that, I hope with the 'old boy's name' comment he meant Joe Galvin, a great bloke who I ran with in the 70's and 80's, Keeley will never forget him, nobody who ever ran for Lei

  • Anyone feeling slightly emotionally unstable today probably should leave this till later, amazing stuff.

  • Perhaps mentioned, but there's a Cameroonian boxer (Cindy Ngamba) playing for the Refugee Olympic Team who resides in Bolton

Always enjoy the rowing- takes a while and watching boats creeping up on each other is tremendous.

Archery, judo, modern pentathlon etc.

Even watching Charlotte and her horse was brilliant.

Meh.

Redgrave et al were inspirational. Dunno if you've seen it, but there is a video somewhere of him training. Collapses from total exhaustion at the end.

Complete dedication to his sport.

Should show it to all would-be athletes.

Stories like this are illustrative of the efforts and risks- as with football, rugby etc.

Admiration for them all.

No problems with any of that. I'll see some of it. Won't go out of my way to watch it. Only my opinion of course but in comparison to a World Cup Finals tournament, there's an absolute gulf in terms of interest and excitement.

it's 2024, the female will get the vote

3 Americans, 2 Ethiopians, 2 Kenyans, 3 Britons, a Ugandan, a South African and a Slovakian in contention - and only 8 places in the final.

So the semis will be interesting.

I thought you were telling us a joke at first there 🙂

What's happened to the Olympics? Used to be a big fuss made of it years back. Seems to get less coverage.

Couldn't name one athlete these days.

A year in prison for raping a 12-year-old girl

What a disgrace that is

Exactly!

From a legal perspective though (leaving the morals for a minute) he's served his time, so should he be able to go to the Olympics?

For me, no- here (so presumably in the Netherlands) there are certain roles that prohibit folk with certain criminal backgrounds.

There may well be the odd "minor" competing in the games.

Legally it would seem there's no barrier because the IOC has stated the decision rests with the national governing bodies and the governing body in the Netherlands has selected him

Morally, of course, it's a different question and - aside from that - the safeguarding point is a good one

Went Through Atherton on Sat

Full of Olympic Flags

Aye, saw that earlier.

Abusing someone she was teaching, or abusing a horse.

I'll go for the latter.

Seems my guess was correct.

They didn't elaborate on the wireless earlier.

U23s football starts today

I know it's only football, but having events on before the opening ceremony is shite
