Meh.

🤣

Redgrave et al were inspirational. Dunno if you've seen it, but there is a video somewhere of him training. Collapses from total exhaustion at the end.

Complete dedication to his sport.

Should show it to all would-be athletes.

Stories like this are illustrative of the efforts and risks- as with football, rugby etc.

Admiration for them all.

No problems with any of that. I'll see some of it. Won't go out of my way to watch it. Only my opinion of course but in comparison to a World Cup Finals tournament, there's an absolute gulf in terms of interest and excitement.

3 Americans, 2 Ethiopians, 2 Kenyans, 3 Britons, a Ugandan, a South African and a Slovakian in contention - and only 8 places in the final.

So the semis will be interesting.

A year in prison for raping a 12-year-old girl

What a disgrace that is

Exactly!

From a legal perspective though (leaving the morals for a minute) he's served his time, so should he be able to go to the Olympics?

For me, no- here (so presumably in the Netherlands) there are certain roles that prohibit folk with certain criminal backgrounds.

There may well be the odd "minor" competing in the games.

Legally it would seem there's no barrier because the IOC has stated the decision rests with the national governing bodies and the governing body in the Netherlands has selected him

Morally, of course, it's a different question and - aside from that - the safeguarding point is a good one
