Now the swimming has finished, I am hopeful that we can get past the Aussies in Golds. I have one neighbour shouts across every time he sees me "Still kicking your arses" etc.

No competition for overall medals but need some velodrome golds etc. over the last 4 days to shut the fucker up!

If we do, I'll get the union flag draped over the balcony rail and lob a trifle at him.

Remind your neighbour GB have finished above Australia in the last 4 Summer Olympics. ( I assume that probably covers the winter olympics too)

Was in the pub when the Bolton girl was boxing. There was no sound on the TVs.

Did I hallucinate or was there a bloke with no arms giving a review of the fight afterwards?

Further to my past post about the Javelin , this came up on my timeline .

Just goes to show how bollocks PE teachers were at the time . I got the straight arm thing but to try to throw it between first finger and middle finger was just shite . Anyway ...

Has he done it then?

Presumably you mean Hamish?

Saw some where the septic had the lead after the "lead" but our chap had done very well on that particular event.

No it was another 19yo  lad called Toby something who climbed a bit later. He was like a rat up a drainpipe and almost made the very top - but went into the lead. Final climb was by a 17 year old Japanese lad who was well in control but inexplicably slipped just an arm's length from winning it. British lad took a while to realise he'd actually got gold.

Hamish wound up 5th.

Incredible viewing.

Enormous kudos to Megan Keith was persevering and completing the 10,000m after something clearly went wrong early in the race

The french girl didn't look good

First glance looked like she was fitting, down still when they ran past again on the next lap

Not mentioned on the BBC coverage at all

Yeah, a bit concerning

Hopefully, it's just a case of exhaustion/dehydration rather than anything more serious

But she looked in a bad way

Would love to know how the conversation went when they chucked them 5 together

Bizzare

From Wiki:

The event was first held in 1912, inspired by the traditional pentathlon held during the ancient Olympics, and designed to model skills needed by a soldier of that time. It has been a continuous part of the Summer Olympics since 1912, and a world championship has been held annually since 1949.
