Imagine something wild like a formation change?

Would love to see a 433, purely to see something different but I can see him persisting with Plan A 2.0 and just scrapping by.

Even if we were to go back to the 352 with McAtee at the top of the middle 3 I think we’d benefit. All of us can see that this midfield 2 experiment just isn’t working.

This is an ideal game to change the system that is currently being implemented.

Something has to change, as we’re simply not creating much at all and it’s pointless having three up front if we can’t get the ball to them in threatening situations.

Evatt is losing the fans atm, with his stubbornness.

Correct.

I think we all know though he’ll persist with this 3 forward line (probably with Arfield in it) to try and force it to work.

Correct, 2 goals in 3 games and one of them was handed on a plate by the orient goalkeeper, apart from Wrexham we’ve created very little

In an ideal world.

Unfortunately, i can see him carrying on with this formation get some results against lesser sides, feel validated, collect some imaginary receipts then get ragdolled against the big boys. Rinse and repeat.

Which will lead to something he's never really faced. The crowd will turn.

I still think Sharon will be loyal, which is her strength, but it could all get a bit strained.

Expect to see starts for Forino, Matete, Vic, Tutu

No idea what formation though

Think it's too early to call out IEs stubbornness

He's only really played three forwards in two out of 4 games

And we need a change from last season

So he's got time to have a go and get it right

The Huddersfield game already looks like a big one for IE.  If we count Wrexham and Charlton as likely top 8, where we came up short, the Huddersfield game is the first against a nailed on top 6 team (IMO) and if we lose that it won't be a good look for IE's "new" system.

Three forwards isn't necessarily the biggest issue.

It's the engine room in midfield.

I'm not sure what set up he'll use at Shrewsbury, but I reckon if he sticks with 3 up top, he'll change the midfield 2.

Not sure they are "proper shit", but even if they are, they will fancy themselves to exploit this weakness.

Don’t think he has.

Orient and Mansfield had Arfield as one of the 3.

Arguable I suppose because none of us thought that’s where he’d play, but it certainly looked like he was.

100%.

Same in pre-season.

Think he’s still got some credit in the bank, appreciate a lot on here think differently. I think as well as the new system we have new players bedding in some of which hardly had a preseason. Got another week of the transfer window who knows we may bring a couple more in before it slams shut . Keep the faith.

I think the intention is to have a box midfield rather than a middle two and three up front

Thomasson, Sheehan at the bottom corners of the box, Collins and McAtee at the top corners

But it's increasingly leaving us exposed and effectively becomes a midfield two (not even mentioning it drags our two most creative players further back and away from the areas they can be most dangerous)

I can't see us changing formation for this, as that would be an admission, three matches into the season, that the big idea we've concocted to rectify the proble.s of last season has failed, and Evatt won't and can't (and, to be fair, probably shouldn't) concede that this early

I simply cannot envisage us doing better than last season whilst only having 2 midfielders playing.

Certainly not if the same playing out from the keeper etc is employed as there are fewer players to look for to build gradually, so they'll have to look for a longer (and probably less accurate) pass.

Hope I'm wrong, but I just can't see it working.

IE admitted he got a few things wrong yesterday, maybe the midfield 2 was one of them

Hope so.

That said, I struggle to get my head round him thinking it would work in the first place.

Anyway, hopefully it gets sorted, and quickly.

Good post mate and I’m all for a different viewpoint from the masses especially when it’s a positive outlook 👍.

However the credit in the bank must be very near the overdraft limit!

If they do sanction another move, they’ve maybe backed the manager more than any other in my lifetime.

Thinking about it. Maybe that was Smeggo

Fair point and it could go quite sour very quickly if things don’t improve, however I think FV will want to give him as much time as they can with the financial backing he’s had.
