The rules are you need 4 outfield player "first teamers" who they classify as, either having started the last league or start the next (defenders/attackers we rotate would be good here), someone with 40 first team appearances in their career (older backups fine here), or players on loan from cat A academies (we usually have a glut of these, not too many this season though). So no reason at all to play more than 4 first teamers, and even some of them could be non-regulars. We keep choosing to put out overly strong teams. Quote

Zico Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 I just want to see an encouraging performance whoever plays Not that it means much based on our encouraging performance at Shrewsbury and subsequent shit show v Exeter Would be good to see McAtee and Collins get their first goals though Quote

Not necessarily, many want us out of this competition anyway so I’m not sure they’d be overly bothered if we lose so we can concentrate on more important matters. You don’t want to lose any game but in terms of importance this one is surely way down there? Quote

Zero importance for our season goals but the game has become incredibly important for confidence, both with the players and the fans. Lose this and knives are well and truly out. Quote
tomski Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Surely if they are tired, then we freshen it up. I never want to lose but if we didn’t win tonight I’d still sleep easy. Quote

According to IE, that's why he put certain players on the bench on Saturday- so they're available for tonight. Toal has a grade 2 muscle tear- and will be out for 2 or 3 weeks. Yet NI have still called him up! Arfield has a hamstring injury, so he's also out. Does beg the question about training methods- Toal isn't the first to get crocked during those sessions. Quote
Dr. Feelgood Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 No NEED to win as such. Just that there's a need to show better. No game till the 14th so the question is whether to give the first XI a run out looking at sorting themselves out ... or stick with a hybrid team & give others a run out. Quote

Yeah I didn't get that at all. The rules are "started" either previous or subsequent league game, so adding youngsters to the bench v Exeter makes no difference Quote

It's the same story too- umpteen players unavailable, some on international duty, and plenty injured. Others fatigued. Why? Quote
ianofcleveleys Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Don't get to do many aways but in for this one, I coach in Barrow every Tuesday night so works in perfectly and another ground to tick off too Quote

Won't be easy tonight, Barrow have started their season well, some good operators for the level. What happens v Huddersfield and Reading will be the definers for Evatt Quote

If McAtee or Collins score its about as relevant as who scores in a practise game in training, they aren't kids desperate to show what they can do against anyone. We won't even be playing Barrow's first team. Last year we scored 27 goals in 7 EFL and FA cup games between Sep and early Jan. JDB and Dan scored 10 on their own! Means nothing when it comes to the games that matter. As usual with these games, just avoid injuries to key players. Quote
