Did we. Thought it was a classic Evatt performance with really shit subs

Dominate the possession without hurting them and then the 3 centre backs ship one in from a corner kick.Classic Evatt.

This the one where warne changed things to cut Sheehan out the game?

Yeah out thought again. Needed to get a result there as we’d ballsed up the games in hand.

We played some fabulous stuff and should've been in front. Bods point blank miss and various other chances. We score them the games done.

They were forced into a sub which then warne made 3 subs to change the game and nullified our midfield. They poached a goal from a free header just like Pompey away then clung on for dear life.

We had to put CJ on to win the game 🤦‍♂️

Seem to recall Derby bringing Kane WIlson on who was bullying us down our left hand side too

Warne had Evatt on toast that day. Although when the only forward you have on the bench is CJ the jobs fucked for the last 20.

It will be the tweak (if you can call it that) that we saw more at Barrow, where Dempsey is more of a hybrid between that forward/midfield role. He seemed to have more license to roam and come deeper if needed.

Other than that, I can’t see it changing.

...and Demps has been brilliant in that role and has put in a couple of fantastic shifts. That triangle with George and Matete with Demps just in front of them has been the best part of our performances in the last couple of games and I don't see that changing unless Evatt is blind - the issue lies at the front and the back now that we've got rid of the soft centre which plagued us last season.

To me it seems that we risk the ball too much at the back and are not ruthless enough up top. That could be helped by going 442 IMO but that won't happen as Evatt seems to think 343 is more progressive but the difference is only in work rate.

The tweaks I'm thinking of are more about on field positioning and discipline to speed up the transition to attack so we get from front to back quicker and vice versa when we lose possession and that means upping everyone's workrate to find the space.

And Evatt needs to tweak his team talks so that we start both halves on the front foot - we tend to come out looking half asleep.

Aye, it's what happens when you restrict yourself to playing one formation, you're left with just making like for like changes if it isn't going your way 😑

If the consensus is to give him 10 games and the target to hit is 2 points per game we will need to win 5 and draw 1 from the next 6 games to be back on track.

Huddersfield,Reading, Crawley ,Northampton,Shrewsbury and Stevenage    ....Draw with Huddersfield then beat the rest?

Even the biggest optimist and happy clapper isn’t having us win 5/6 of our next games.

I think we should look at this next 10 as a block. 2 PPG for that block would be acceptable IMO

Did you go to Derby ? They hardly had a kick. IE gets a lot of deserved criticism but Derby we played well.

Didn't go, watched on TV. No way am I down playing how well we played, certainly for an hour or so. But that's the whole point isn't it? We play well in these games, but we don't mark someone at a corner (someone please explain that tactic), we don't have players that shoot very well etc. And once we are losing its game over. Some of the build up and passing was/is a joy to watch. It was similar at Wigan and 1st half at Pompey and Blackpool. We were the better team in all 4 of those games in 1st half at least. But the opposition defend better and are more efficient with their (rare) attacks and physicality. The question remains if we'd taken the lead in the 1st half of any of those 4 games does anyone truly believe an IE team would manage the game so that we got clean sheets in the 2nd half?

Well, we did go 1 up at Blackpool and lost, so I don't think it's a stretch to say we'd have lost the lead in any of those big games if we'd scored first.

The Derby one in particular is Evatt's style summed up in one game. Lots of possession in non dangerous areas, very few big chances, opposition manager changing style to negate us, like for like subs for us, and then conceding from a set piece.

A neutral who went to the game with me just asked at the end "why are Bolton scared to shoot?"

I've voted for 5/10 games but like others said only because there's not a lower option, for me he's got the next 2 home games against Huddersfield and Reading.

If we don't come out of those games on 6 points or potentially 4 but with lots and lots of improvement in our play, then there is no other option but to look elsewhere.

He's done a lot for us and technically has improved us each year. Regardless of the calamity of the playoff final, I think he has deserved another go. But we all know it's his last chance and we had to start quick to win the fans back, that hadn't happened, it's been a dreadful start.

I do believe he isn't wrong about trying the new system and players taking time to bed in. I do think its been more about individual mistakes and players not making that final shot or pass in the final 3rd. The players have to take the criticism as well.

But however you look at it, we are sitting 18th after a season where we should have 100% gone up, with the board backing the manager fully with 9 new players and some for hefty fees. And this is his 5th season in charge.

You can't be sat 18th, 2 home games without a single goal, 26,000 crowds and with a front 3 that would arguably get in any team in this league.

He's got the next 2 home games for me. This international break is the most important week in Evatts managerial tenure.

Those 3 away games late sept. There could be some damage there.

Shrews could be his Hull at Home :(

Who did we play when it went bent for Freeman?
