Probably blind sentiment. I know he's in an untenable position and it's probably best for all parties that he moves on but I still want him to succeed. On that note, I need a drink 😄 Quote

Well I don't disagree with any of that either. Charles as the focul point is painful. And Santos, it's more infuriating he does the hard stuff but can't do the routine! Quote
nantwichwhite Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 I wasn't looking forward to this game this week. Not had this feeling for a long time. System has been sussed. Press, harry, compress the wings, wait for the mistake and attack. We need to grind out a result somewhere, a boring draw perhaps. Invite the opposition to attack and to see if we can press and counter attack them. Systems out the window and choose an eleven to battle like hell. Managers like Greaves, Allardyce and Rioch were masters at this. Also, crossing and set pieces are dire lets start from there. Quote

Had more than enough opportunity to go up automatically but fucked those up, scraped through to Wembley almost fucking up against Barnsley then the royal fuck up at Wembley. We won 3 out of 4 in January, and played great v Luton twice, so either December (2 defeats) or Feb! Still didn't lose in Feb till 24th (Blackpool). Results in 1st half of season were consistent with 2nd half - beat most teams but fail in bigger games, with home defeats like Bristol & Carlisle thrown in. The under achieving, if we want top 2, has been going on since the 4th match of last season but we were propped up by the kind fixtures, which made people fall for the "fact" that we were a top 2 team. We never, ever were. 0-4 to Wigan and the other pre Christmas defeats told us all that but it was ignored until the tougher fixtures found us out. Quote

deeane Koontz Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 We're Basically playing with 2 teams. 8 in one half and 3 in the other. Not got a clue what he's trying to acheive with this 2 man midfield malarkey. Quote

And the division was very weak last year so we could, and did, full our boots against a lot of dross. Far more good teams this year so I expected the struggle, but we've regressed on top of that Quote

Genuinely not trying to make it worse, but does that include Accy and Barrow in the U21s cup, and Shrewsbury in the other cup? I know folk always say "a win's a win" when we win at Barrow etc, but if it gives a false impression of progress, it just papers over the cracks and prolongs the inevitable. IE was including beating Mansfield on pens as a win, as if that game was to be viewed as a positive. Quote
Ani Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Evatt is making a series of bizarre decisions. Why drop GJ today ? The one thing we have got right this season is balancing the defence. If Dempsey is playing, why as a forward ? Is there any team that has ever been successful with 2 in midfield ? Quote

Zog1 Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 (edited) Some thing interesting for you guys, since Aaron Morley went to Wycombe Wanderers and has played each match, they're unbeaten (2 W, 1D, 0L), ps Kieran Sadlier also plays and starts for them. Edited September 14, 2024 by Zog1 Quote

Similarly Tomo and Matete in midfield are big enough and although small I wouldn't say Dempsey shies away from a battle. The wingbacks are complete lightweights but I don't think we look any smaller than the opposition Back 3 plus Johnston for sure, otherwise their right wing back (blonde lad) was bigger than half our team. As with sides like Ipswich, who had tall, strong units even in the WB positions, Huddersfield just bullied us on too many occasions. Third goal a classic, our flapping and flailing attempts to clear it were piss weak as their lads kept knocking us about Quote

The other baffler was McAtee, it was a low bar at Barrow but he was the best of our forwards, kept working, showing and trying to make things happen all night and deserved his goal. What Evatt expected of Charles up against Helik was truly ridiculous. Quote
