Future Captain material

He's definitely captain material, great attitude and he's vocal on and off the pitch.  The issue would be at what level he would be captaining.  Sometimes he looks decent and other times he should be one of the better players at a L2 team, like today.  If we do get promoted while he's here, my opinion is he falls by the wayside, like 90% of this squad (minimum).  No shame in that, but if we'd beaten Oxford would any of this squad other than Baxter and a couple of others still be starting games by the end of the season?  It would have been almost cruel for these to be playing at a higher level for any length of time.

I noticed Victor giving someone a bollocking after the 4th. About effing time someone did.

As a team we are just so passive and accepting of shiteness. A little bit of accountability is good.

I also have a soft spot for Toal, I know his form had dipped a bit, but he came over and applauded what was left of the crowd. I do think he could be captain material.

Why drop GJ today ? The one thing we have got right this season is balancing the defence.

If Dempsey is playing, why as a forward  ?

Is there any team that has ever been successful with 2 in midfield ?

It delivers little pleasure on people seeing it. We all agreed Toal struggled on the left and we missed Johnston.

Been surprised by the start Oxford have made this season, but then I read they've brought in something like 15 new players over the summer.

Fair play.

The bastards 😄

And that is another fallacy from Evatt.

Apparently we play the way we do to succeed at a higher level, yet Hudds, a relegated Champ team looked far superior to us.

The more you analyse what he says, it's just layered up bollocks!

Would just love it if Jack Dearden just once asked a pointed question, 'So Ian, you were looking forward to time on the grass with the squad over the International break, after that performance the fans are probably wondering  what the fuck were you coaching them exactly!?'

Back 3 plus Johnston for sure, otherwise their right wing back (blonde lad) was bigger than half our team. As with sides like Ipswich, who had tall, strong units even in the WB positions, Huddersfield just bullied us on too many occasions. Third goal a classic, our flapping and flailing attempts to clear it were piss weak as their lads kept knocking us about

You're probably right, I just hadn't noticed it in the game.

I do remember thinking we were so much bigger than a few teams a couple of years ago though and that that would give us an advantage. So another way the squad has got weaker I guess

I think the players are good enough and i think the bulk of them could play at a higher level, i think IE gets the worst out of them.

Morley and Sadlier couldn't get a look in with us and rightly so they LOOKED terrible, they join Wycombe and boom Wycombe are unbeaten in 3 games.

Evatt's primary target last year was Baccus, what's he doing now sitting on the bench at Cambridge because he can't get in the team.

Evatt is the issue. Not the players.

The Championship is way, way ahead of division 3.

Miles faster.

The 3 relegated teams will be in the top 6 (imo).

You are correct about this having to play this way to succeed at a higher level - we aren't there yet.

You play any way needed to win games.

Derby were awful to watch but I doubt their fans give a toss now.

Last season was a gilt edged chance because none of the relegated teams were going to challenge.

2 because of money problems and Blackpool sinking to their natural level.

Was a huge chance missed.

Well sadlier signed for Wycombe last year. Wycombe were hardly amazing. And if you think Morley is the answer to our problems then you should probably start watching another sport.

But no more bizarre than his previous bizarre decisions, the likes of Dapo and Sadlier at LWB.  The thing is if your squad is generally better than the opposition, you can get away with it.  If Pep decides to play Haaland at CB and Stones right wing, they'd probably still beat Brentford. It would be a ridiculous selection but it would be another win for Pep.  We were still picking up enough results to disguise the fact that we weren't making the most of the players we had to choose from and were incapable of playing a different formation to suit the opponents.
