Car Alarm Going Off

Right, first of all I've tried rubbing it with a balloon and also throwing it down the stairs, but it hasn't fixed it.

Anyone any idea why all of a sudden when I lock my car with the remote the alarm starts to go off about 3 seconds later?  Strangely, however, if I lock it with the key in the door the alarm doesn't go off.

There are no problems unlocking it with the remote.

I look forward to lots of helpful replies :)

The system might be getting "confused"

Does your interior light still work? Could be a simple fuse

Also check your battery charge and maybe the door switches

I was outside in the dark last night disconnecting the horn because the alarm kept going off... fixed it but it won't pass an MoT!

Yep, interior light still works. Car battery is new and all doors are locking and unlocking fine.

The remote locks it fine, it's just about 3 seconds later the alarm goes off. I've just reverted to using the key to lock it, but it's annoying.

I have "old" cars (MG/Rover etc.) which have fuses and modules which I can usually fix... what sort of car are we looking at here?

It's a 53 plate E46 BMW.

Happy to buy you many pints if you can sort. Do it quick and you'll have the best reach around you've ever had.

Have you made sure all the doors are properly closed? Mine sometimes does that when the passenger door hasn't been shut/slammed to......

Yep, it only has three doors, including the boot.

I've checked these multiple times.

I'm confused as to why locking it with the key is fine, but if I lock with the remote the alarm goes off after a few seconds.

It started immediately after I dropped you off the other week.

I'll send you the bill.

Really. You’ve not had much luck with these cars. No sod all about cars but I reckon it could be the doors. They are so heavy.

Hope you get it sorted. Have my Reading ticket as good will😂

Locking with key might disable alarm. Some models allow alarm to set without sensors being activated.

Just looked it up... when I saw it had a CAN system my heart sank

BUT... there is a common "wear and tear" fault on these... a chap and cheerful Hood (bonnet) switch... piece of pi55 to change, worth a try
