Anyone who's been giving him personal abuse is a clown. But equally it's a theme for this team to conflate a relatively small amount of abuse online (still unacceptable) with genuine criticism and tar the whole fanbase with it. Santos has received incredible support and has been a hugely popular player in his time here - this whole Evatt team could not have asked for better support over the years and wouldn't get better anywhere else. It's not a tenable situation for a senior player to be sulking with the fans, so he needs to get over it or leave.

I think he’s had too much put on him though.Maybe he’s not been able to cope, or he’s not had it in him to say to Evatt what Evatt should have been able to see and deal with all along. I've seen criticism of his performances and the was he slows things to a near stop and is the fulcrum of the past, pass, pass system. That's the manager & coaches process but he's at the centre of that. Criticising that is a view & his personal performances haven't been, in my view, to his usual standard. Manchester_whites
We don’t really know what abuse members of his family have been getting. Some people need to look at themselves especially as mental health is championed at our club.

His previous performances may not have been good enough- same for them all- but that doesn't necessitate the abuse. Doesn't matter whether they travel or not really, it's just an awful part of society.

We started off first 20 or so minutes like the only team that wanted to score, and we could have had 3 goals, 0-1 flattered Crawley. I didn't see any "allowing Crawley the possession". After that we retreated and couldn't get out of our half for large spells, upto the substitutions. Isn't that what we did generally last season when taking an early lead? That's fine, it can work, but I don't see any change eg Wycombe, we sat back and they got it back to 2-2, Port Vale - sat back and won similar to yesterday; Reading, Blackpool and Exeter - early lead and domination, sat back, went behind. It works sometimes of course - Shrewsbury, Charlton etc, but have we really changed tactics or formation? Who cares, we won, but I was just surprised to see those comments. If he is "sulking" with fans then that's not great, and ideally he should go to them. Thinking about it though, so long as he performs on the pitch, it doesn't actually matter. If he did leave because of the abuse, then maybe those individuals are the ones who truly need to look at themselves. Anyway, it is all a bit of guesswork at the moment. Good point about whether not having possession was deliberate It will be interesting to see whether/when this happens again, especially against a better side. IMO I think it was forced by them rather than us choosing to do this. I do agree with what Evatt said on his interview, we definitely need to be better with the ball and not sit back and invite pressure, like we did for periods yesterday. But, and again I agree with Evatt, in this period while we are still picking up confidence from the defeats we’ve suffered, we are still a way off our fluent best. But like I said yesterday, if this is what winning looks like moving forward then I’m all for more if it! Probably a bit of both But our opponents yesterday typically have more possession no matter who they play this season, and I expect that's something that was picked up on in the pre-match preparation or during
Members Lt. Aldo Raine
It seems to be developing as a bit of a blueprint to beat them Four of their last five league matches have seen them have the majority share of possession - 60% against Wrexham, 70% against Barnsley, 70% against us - whilst going on to lose

We know what we're like when we're behind - loads of possession, passing etc, opposition sit deep and allow us to do our thing. Crawley have been behind for the majority of their last 5 league games, and they've played the likes of Wrexham, Stockport and Wigan who are probably happy to defend and hit on the break, when in the lead. Anyway that's probably the last thought I'll give to Crawley's tactics for a few months 😀

radcliffe white
Unfortunately footballers/managers will always receive some kind of abuse when things ain’t going well in comes with the job, I’m guessing the santos stuff is isolated keyboard cranks But not acknowledging the support yesterday was wrong and won’t end well if he continues
Leyther_Matt
Any personal abuse is out of order, but similarly there has to be an appreciation that it goes with the territory a little bit and remove yourselves from such situations on social media in particular. To suggest he didn’t applaud the fans after a 2-0 win on a second mammoth trip inside a few days because he was fearing any abuse is an utter nonsense, however, and he had rafts of support during the game that he really should be embracing. Can’t say I was particularly keeping an eye on whether he applauded or not from halfway, but not to come over with the rest of the team is pretty poor form, really. Especially when you look at Evatt diving right in to it.

I'd like to think it shows togetherness etc, but I suppose as long as he's performing then maybe that's what really matters. Who knows, he may have talked to his teammates about it, and they're fine with it. Going to leave it now though, as arguments can be made either way. More important are performances and results.
