There's online criticism and there's actual abuse. Seems you're the one that cannot differentiate from the two. This isn't someone saying he played shit. It's calling his wife a slag. It's about time folk were made accountable for what they say online. I don't condone messaging his wife but i also think she's put herself in that position as she sought out the post and specifically aimed a potshot at the guy. Making comments about money when Joe Public doesn't have any is simply going to rile people up and cause a reaction. What did she really think was going to happen? Like i already said, the players and staff need to stay away from social media. Anyone in the public eye is going to find something about themselves that they do not like if they go looking for it. Best to simply ignore it. Edited October 1 by bwfc4ife Quote

Wanderlust Posted October 1 Posted October 1 I can understand people venting about a player’s performance for their team online but no keyboard warrior has the right to make personal attacks. I’m sure Rico would like 10 minutes with the little shit in private. Quote
wakey Posted October 1 Posted October 1 No excuse for that type of abuse (obviously). But it's a slippery slope if our former captain is seen to be snubbing fans and teammates and doing so with the support of the manager. Feels like it's being handled poorly to me. All the focus at this point should be on extending our winning run, not giving the idiots more excuses to have a dig. He / Evatt / Sharon could have called out the abuse without Rico's 'protest', and with 100% support from proper fans. Quote
gonzo Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Talking of abuse this made me laugh. Sounds like Charlie Baker Quote

Reading Iles piece last night I struggled a bit with the notion that the not celebrating goals with his team mates was something that Evatt and those team mates were ok with. Can understand, to a degree, that they may be accepting of his stance on going over to applaud the fans, but the bit about not celebrating goals with his colleagues seems more of a gripe aimed at them and/or Evatt so why would they be supportive of it? Brennan Johnson had some of the same social media pelters at Spurs a few weeks back, at the end of the next game he was wary about going over to those fans and gave them a muted little clap then walked off. He scored next game, gave the fans a bit of the cupped ear and Son put an arm round him to show the fans the skipper was behind him. Quote

He purely said he supports him in the face of abuse. Rightly so. We don't know what the views of teammates are, and in a way I'd rather not. Best way to resolve it now, is for everyone to really get behind Santos, and show him that the odd abuser isn't representative. Mend bridges and he'll come round. Quote

Her parting words were somet like 'and stop looking at me tits' Gonzo, you missed out here pal Quote

IE's response is "we didn't want it anyway". Think I'd probably have said similar as a kid. In fairness, we were resolute and looked dangerous on the break ... and it was probably safer them having it than us pissing about at the back. Quote

In the modern 'culture' though this is the done thing & since losing the captaincy he's chosen not to. It was clear from his wife's post that on-line criticism of his performance has pissed him, and her, off. He has to move beyond that or he leaves. You can't show hatred for (some of) your fans & survive. Yeah fair point, The applauding the fans is a fairly recent trend. If the Players wanna join in the celebrations after a momentous win like the White Hot Stuff Im all for it. But do fans really need validation from the players ? Ya get that from ya mates down the pub or on here when youve just done , Aresnal, Crawley & Northampton away in a week. The family abuse is another level , Santos wife, Evatts kids etc severely need kerb smashing. I dont know how I would take it. First step is surely come off all social media , hopefully realise its just a few folk and then use it as a motivating tool but everyone is different. Im also hoping the captaincy was a fairly mutual thing but maybe it hit harder than we know. Quote
