athywhite1958 Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 (edited) Just watched the first ever episode of Life On Mars (again) when Sam Tyler went back 33 years after an accident, what are you thinking from 33 years ago and compare to now. (If you were here then!!) I was establishing myself at HMPYOI Hindley and on the POA (Prison Officers Association) committee, married with 2 daughters and still a season ticket holder at BWFC Edited October 2, 2024 by athywhite1958 Quote
bolty58 Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Just relocated to Perth from Wollongong in March 1991. Temporarily stayed in a ex military barracks (used for country based kids to spend time in the big smoke at holiday times) called Noalimba for the first few weeks whilst house hunting. Spartan but dirt cheap (from memory $11 a night for a family of four sleeping in bunk beds!) with a cafeteria, electronic games room, aviary and every sort of sports field/court/room you could think of. Huge shower block all to ourselves with massive baths etc. Missus loved that part. Kids were devastated when we moved into a house 3 weeks later - they wanted to stay put! Once a week a bus full of pan lids would turn up from some country town or other and they had a ball playing with that lot. The luxury 4 bed, 2 bath on a 800 square metre block with an Olympic sized swimming pool was boring by comparison! Still working for the Australian branch of the UK company who head hunted me at that time so was a big reality check to be in a 3 person remote office in a suburb called Willetton with a store and limited office resources. As state manager I soon got that changed into luxurious surroundings in South Perth looking across the Swan river at Perth city centre. Very different skyline today with what must be close to fifty new high rises since then. Met a lad from Halliwell by virtue of my son making friends with his. Fanatical Wanderer so we hit it off right away. Quote
Dr Faustus Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 I was 11 and probably hadn’t figured out how to pull my foreskin back or wear a tie Not that the two are related Quote

gonzo Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Probably thinking I was a teenage mutant hero turtle in year 3 at Moor Park Primary. Only thing to worry about was if my mum had got enough crispy pancakes in or what was coming on next with Andy Peters in the broom cupboard. Quote
Spider Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Starting sixth form and attempting to shag every girl in the year. And failing. Quote

Sweep Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 17 and working at the now defunct HB Electronics, I think I went on a lads holiday to Kos in the October as well, which was shit, as most of the bars had already closed for the winter. I do recall my mate taking a girl back to our room though, so I stayed out most of the night, the next night, I took a girl back, so he made himself scarce. Turns out it was the same girl.....so a couple of nights into the holiday, she had had more sex in our room, than either of us had (as individuals) - she was a classy lass 😁 Quote
Whitestar Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Just got a brand new escort van, it was the first year of the Mk5s but somehow the company had managed to get hold of a brand new Mk4, anyway loved that van and did well over 100,000 miles in it. Quote

tomski Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Life on mars is a great programme. Was living in Manchester when they were filming. 33 years from then or 1973 I was still a spunk bubble. Alive and well in 1991 playing Spectrum +3. Other than that my only ever memory of 1991 was that Marseille team and Gonzos holiday to Yugoslavia Quote

Winchester White Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 I would have been 13 and madly in love with a blond lass near me. Or the brunette further up the estate, I forget. Quote
Manchester_whites Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 1991……chasing Tranmere lads on Wembley Way after the game 😡 Quote
MancWanderer Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Been married a year to the first Mrs. Had moved back to Bolton and living in Smithills. Drank far too much in The Ainsworth on Halliwell Road when Tony was the landlord. Massive mortgage rates that were killing me. Most Sundays were spent watching Wigan RL home and away. Home games at Burnden were often but very few aways. Friday nights in Bolton town centre were that odd transition period of the old Wild West days of The Lower Nags Head bloodbaths and the Acid House love fest. Didn’t hate that time but probably the least enjoyable of my life Quote
mickbrown Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 At University, wishing it could go on forever. Quote
