Just read a bit of an article (New Scientist) that came up on my Google feed.

Never heard of them before, but apparently there are 3 populations of them: north ad south Wales, and a canal in London near to the zoo.

Not everyone's cup of tea are snakes, but I find them fascinating.

Would you be happy to have one lurking in your garden trees?

Tart!

Bit like on those YouTube videos about these snakes, I once had one placed around my neck as a kid. Smooth and not slimy and totally different to what preconceptions may be.

Obviously, I'd be wary of some giant constricting type, or a nasty venomous one, but having also seen a grass snake chasing a frog, they're fascinating.

Always plenty of frozen, day old male chicks to feed them with.

I’d just let it go out foraging.

My mum used to work in a hospice through some woodland. My dad and I would walk up to meet her when she finished her shift. He used to throw sticks up in the trees and when they came crashing down, he’d start hissing and saying snakes were coming for me. I’d shit myself and he’d be pissing his sides. I was about 3 😂

The wanker

Been terrified since

That's horrific, similar to when my mum told me that one of her, when she was young, relatives told her that at night, spiders crawl onto your face and drink the water out of your eyes 😐

I like snakes, mate at college had one as a pet and always wanted one meself

My best mate had green pit vipers in his bedroom when we were teenagers... he walked in one night, startled one of the buggers and it jumped and sunk its fangs into the end of his nose... he went to the Royal Infirmary and caused a right rumpus, late at night and no one knew whet to do... ended up giving him a tetanus jab and sending him home... looked bloody sore though 🙂

I've seen a few grass snakes round here, never seen an adder yet. I'm not that fussed by them, but Mrs Sweep runs a mile

I uncovered a grass snake (I think) tidying up the vegetable garden earlier this year... didn't half make me jump.

I went indoors to get a camera but it had cleared off... not seen it since unfortunately

Barely a one this year.

Pleasant in a way, but also concerning.

Anyway, I think we should encourage these particular snakes to eat the bastard grey squirrels.

we had 2 nests this year. Paid a bloke £60 to get rid of one, then only a week later he had to come back and get rid of another one. The stripey cunts

Yes.

But will wriggle a bit to keep body temp up, or even bask in the sun for a bit before going back.

Just wiki'd them... they're probably resident in the big compost heap near to where I saw it,  the heap is near to the river also, it appears they are semi aquatic.

Wife has sometimes complained about a bad smell near there, I assumed it was fox piss but it appears they secrete a galicky substance as a defence. They are predated by foxes and corvids, i have foxes, crows and jackdaws, also Red Kites and Buzzards so it's all happening down there when i'm not around.
