Collins is our leading scorer.

3 league goals v Burton, Blackpool and Cambridge.

And yes a good goal at Arsenal, he's the only one of our's that could have scored that.

I don't really care what they do in the U21s/reserves cup but no problem if others count those games, I just want us to get results in meaningful games against 1st team opposition.

I don't really rate Nlundulu, but I'd rather he filled a spot in the squad than Arfield.

Signing Arfield makes no sense whichever way you look at it. If you want an old head around the squad, we might as well have kept Cameron Jerome.

A positive aspect of the youth set up, and pleased for the lad (and Swanny).

As on the other thread, it concerns me a bit that he will just sit on the bench, and not be used. We have problems with availability of midfielders, so we use a a square peg etc.

That isn't yielding results consistently, so why not give the lad a go. Nothing to lose, but plenty to gain if he does well.

Perfect opportunity for him to start Thursday.

Like you say nothing to lose. He’s the only CM available who looks like he’d do a shielding role alongside Thomason, otherwise we’re faced with Arfield starting. Then you start to wonder when/where he’ll ever start.

If he played really well it would beg a further question over the “Morley situation”

The experience he needs is only going to come from playing. We sent players out from the B and youth left right and centre and nothing comes of it, Evatt's promoted SSA to the squad without that experience, so must recognise his quality.

We really need to become a selling club again, building our own players and sending them on. I had a kid i teach absolutely stoked over having "trials" for Bolton, they were more excited than when Wigan watched them (and they're a Wigan ST holder). A lot of these players have the potential, but when we're bringing in past it players "for the dressing room", and that's clearly not working, then we need to ask questions.

Aye.

I really don't see the point of asking a striker to play some sort of hybrid role that does no one any favours.

Give him, a go, tell him to enjoy himself and not to get down on himself if things don't go too well.

I think we'd all respect the lad for having a go,  even if it wasnt successful, rather than a hackneyed, ineffective, silly season selection.

We'll see soon enough.

Morley is not staying on loan at Wycombe

"Aaron is a player we are pleased has got what he needed to out of the loan. If they want to keep him, they need to make us a really significant offer. From our perspective, he just won’t stay there on loan. He will recall him and he will be part of our team and our squad unless they offer us an offer we think meets his valuation. Then, we can look at other things.

For me, it is really clear that if they want to keep Aaron, a bit like we do, we have to negotiate and pay for players’ quality. Aaron has been fantastic for them. I have told them our valuation and now it is down to them to either meet it or not."

Does anyone not think we need a midfield bastard ?

I hear this a lot, what is a "midfield bastard" exactly? - somebody who runs around kicking folk and getting booked? - if so, GT is already doing that for us

Bastard probably isn’t the right phrase. We need a midfield athlete for me, one that’s a physical presence - preferably adding height to the team. I mentioned Muamba but it’s exactly that type of player, just seems to be everywhere, rarely comes out of a tackle without the ball, covers ground easily, preferably can head the ball.

Let’s be honest, they’re few and far between and any that are good at the footballing side are playing at a higher level than us. If you can find one though, even that’s limited at the technical side (as Muamba was really) then you’d have the perfect player to play alongside Sheehan and likely get more out of him too.

I think the bastard word is because you want someone who is fully versed in the dark arts. So yes all the above with the added game sense and ref management that you see from other teams.

The closest we have in recent years is Karl Henry IMO. An older head who knew his job.

Apologies if already been mentioned but I have a feeling we will sell Morley and possibly Sheehan to help fund a move for Luca Connell. He’s exactly what we are missing

Sheehan and Morley for Connell!! GTF! He couldn’t Lace Sheehans boots.

Bring Morley back?
He'll end up back on the bench two weeks into January.

He's not better than Sheehan, Thomason or Dempsey IMO.

I'm not bothered about bringing him back but he's certainly more dependable than Dempsey who is just too injury prone for me

A good midfield bastard goes round kicking folk but a bit less obviously, so gets booked less 🤣

Yeah I wouldn’t be looking to resign Dempsey. Waste off effort. It’s a shame really
