I did. My F-I-L met him at a sportsman's dinner years back and said what a lovely chap he was.

All I kept seeing yesterday, though, was that quote of his after England had won the World Cup. He'd gone playing golf to avoid it then got back to the clubhouse just as everyone was celebrating. He said it was "the blackest day of my life". Amongst all the eulogies yesterday all i kept thinking was "well feck you, you bitter Scotch bastard!"

You might be thinking of the nonce Bill Wyman

Indeed. Wyman was seeing a 13 year old with her parent’s knowledge and presumably, their blessing.

From Wikipedia:

On 2 June 1989, aged 52, Wyman married 18-year-old Mandy Smith, whom he had "fallen in love with" when she was 13 and, according to Smith, had a sexual relationship with when she was 14.[45] The couple separated two years later and finalised their divorce two years after that.[46][47] In April 1993 Wyman married model Suzanne Accosta, whom he first met in 1980; the two had remained friends until their romance developed.[48] The couple has three daughters.[49]

Then she married Pat Van Den Hauwe… guessing as a kid she was susceptible to Toffees?

Edit. I knew he appeared in Farnworth and searched on Google. This is what came up. It was a post about Blightys.

He did quite a few gigs in Bolton over the years with Johnny Pryers, local lad who’s big on the northern soul scene. His brother Lee Pryers was a reserve team player for the wanderers before signing for Fleetwood.

I saw the Football journalist Patrick Barclay had died last Thursday. He was in his 70s so I presumed it was something age related but since heard he'd stepped in front of a train. Poor bloke.

He was brilliant on Sky's Sunday Supplement. Really interesting and knowledgeable on soccer.

Must've had his demons.... RIP
