Casino Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Ive booked a holiday just to make sure I dont get tempted I actually like Blackpool for refreshments Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Had the pleasure of driving through Blackpool centre last weekend to attend a show at the Winter Gardens. God it was grim. Apart from a small area around the venue, it was like a slightly upmarket version of Donestk, liberally scattered with young mums pushing prams. Ridiculous really, given the number of visitors. Quote

I get us, but it's still bollocks Brum got 2149 from what I can see Quote

Was there today. I think it’s alright me. I know it has its issues like everywhere else but I don’t go for a wander round the delinquents. Think it’s made a big effort to become a family resort as opposed to a stag place. Some exciting plans for the future. Quote
Eagle85 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Was sat in the home end for this last year, horrible experience. The wife isn't from the UK originally she was happy to go walking round the town whilst I was at the game. My warning fell on deaf ears. She was traumatised. Quote
Traf Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Looking forward to this one. Youngest's 20th birthday. Quote
Ani Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Worst away game of the season. It is over 2 hours on train from Leeds, so we drove last year parked up near ground and found a pub (that bit is easy) not far from ground. Then they shut off all the roads so becomes a 25 minute walk instead of 5. Same coming back. You are treated like absolute cattle. Amazed it looks like being a Saturday 3PM , Sky games already picked for that day. Quote
Duck Egg Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I've still not understood why the last few times the Police have stopped us leaving by the quickest route, so both sets of supporters end up walking towards each other on the main road at the top and it's quite obvious who's who. It's been quite lairy each time. A dozen times I've been there and the Sherpa van semi final draw is the nearest I've come to seeing an actual win. Quote

The South Stand to our left was completely empty, yet the police made everyone go the opposite way directly in to foot traffic from the packed North Stand. Quote

Obviously, all big places have their issues and shit holes, it just surprises me how it got into that state. They've done really well round the Winter Gardens to improve things. Free business rates and grants for shop frotnages. Looks really well round there now. The town center itself is no different to any other northern town. Take it Eagle85s Mrs doesn't frequent Bolton town center much either The problem areas are the streets just off the good bits. Best analogy I read was Blackpool is like a fallen Christmas tree, sparkling on the outside, slowly dying on the inside. The amount of money the town generates, the streets should be paved with gold. But the council, in the past, would rather spend millions on vanity projects rather than proper regeneration. Something the new government are now addressing tbf. For years the streets of hotels have been left to ruin. Council then allowed companies to use them as HMOs and allow evert wafe and stray from around the country to live in them. That along with building 4 massive chain hotels with a few miles of eachother, including one they actually paid £26m for. That in turn smashes the local trade and creates even more derelict hotels. Years of neglect and poor spending and you end up with the hell holes just off the prom. Hopefully the new regeneration plans come to fruition. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Good for them. I thought the area round the gardens looked good, though maybe some brighter street lights wouldn't go amiss. That place is like a tardis, all sorts going on at the same time. Anyway, I'll have that mower if it's still available! Quote
