If it was this easy I’d keep, Collins, Forino, Toal, Forrester, Morley, Randall, Mendes Gomes, Baxter, Schon.

A few smart additions to that group is all we need to compete, I think the squad is being dirtied by bad apples.. McAtee seems too much of a billy big bollocks considering he hasn’t done much, I don’t trust his influence on the players above.

Santos, Jones, Cogley, Sheehan, Adeboyego, Nlundulu and Thomason all have that mentality/skill issue.. We need to evolve from them.

Promote Conway, Abimbola, Ahmed, Latrell-Lewis and Lawrence from the B team/send out on loan.

He can play anywhere like a prime Stevie G if you believe some of the hype around him.

Agreed, I really don’t see what others see in him.

Good league one player on his day but far too injury prone and inconsistent.

unless they remember that he chucked them under the bus when trying to save his own skin

Their choice is working for IE who chucked them under the bus or SS who says they are weak, slow, have a poor mentality and just aren't good enough, that he's stuck with them and will have to find ways to get rid of as many as possible😀 (words to that effect before anyone asks to see the quote).

Football players generally have thick skins, they will have forgotten all about that nonsense in August.

Really not enthused over any of our current players. Haven’t heard anything on Schon recently, is he injured or has something happened behind the scenes?

Can only presume Thomason’s turn as scapegoat has come as a result of him being captain and us losing. Bolton fans have a rhetoric for always getting behind players who run their bollocks off, I’m not necessarily convinced this is always the case.

They also turn on their own for some unknown reason . Darby , Phillips, Winstanley, Felgate , Vela , and fuck knows why they turned on Brown , Kelly & Nolan  who showed immense loyalty to the club . The only one I remember getting a pass was Clough as he was blackmailed out of the club.

As for the team , we need 2 good goalkeepers which we have .

A defence of Forino, Forrester, Toal , Santos , Johnston should be more than good enough for this league (IF they can stay fit)

A Midfield of Morley, Thomasson , Dempsey , Shabby & Desmond  likewise

A front line of Collins , McAtee , Abimbola , Ade Banjo , Ndulululu , Randall is all 2 much of the same and I would expect 3 of them to leave this summer .

Need 2 new full backs a defined DMC and a Andy Walker .

Wholesale changes set us back a year or 2 .

I’ve come to the conclusion that our most important targets for next year would be a team of top notch sports psychologists who can knock the Prima Donna out of them and fire them up to produce the level of performance they produced against Birmingham week in and week out, regardless of the opposition.

Birmingham wasn’t too long ago, but it was the last game that left me thinking that they were hungry, respectful of the opposition and determined to give everything they had to earn the points - since then there has been a noticeable drop in concentration, awareness and effort.

Since Birmingham, it seems some players have believed their own hype and at times have lost concentration and awareness and have not put anywhere near the same effort in as they did in that game. Seemed to me that having played so well, some started to disrespect other teams, forgetting that the points available are the same regardless of the opposition and victories have to be earned every game.

This group of players can play, and Schumacher’s style (whatever that is) can work - but only if the players are hungry enough and respectful enough to go out and earn the points week in, week out throughout the season - through concentration, awareness and effort.

We can’t afford top top players who are so good that they can get away with a touch of arrogance - we need determined underdogs who understand that every team in the league is out to take points off us and to stop that from happening they have to win every battle and work their nads off. They need to be constantly reminded they are League 1 players who have won fuck all but if they want to they have to earn it individually and as a team.

Aye, I'm baffled by people wanting to get rid of Thomason he's the least of our problems.

Don't get it either. Lad runs his socks off. He takes the brunt for Morley.

I wouldn't say there was a "clamour" for him.  If he's had some praise, its because he's literally the only player in a squad of about 25 that has any pace, that the opposition need to worry about.  And he's possibly the only player with the ability to beat a player with pure skill (Matete beats a man with strength - I'd forgotten that was allowed for a BW player).

And if Desmond's only had one decent game, I must have imagined the other games where he's either assisted, scored or got an opponent sent off by beating him countless times.  He also turns defence into attack in the blink of an eye through pure pace to get from left back to the halfway line (compare that to Murphy or Johnston for eg).

Where I would agree completely is that he's not reliable fitness wise - he joins a lengthy BWFC queue there - and he very rarely turns up for away games (again, join the queue).

We all complain about lack of strength and pace in the team and so many are talking about getting rid of the only 2 players that possess either.

I think you’re using rose coloured glasses a bit there JR. I agree he has the skill and pace but for me doesn’t use it anywhere near enough and in fact just to correct you no player has I think actually been sent off as a result of fouling him, though I agree one or two should definitely have been. I just find him frustrating with all that ability but given that inconsistency and his constant absence through injury, including historical, I think he’s a luxury we can’t afford if we want to be serious promotion contenders.

In short, Evatt did a lot more damage, more thoroughly and earlier than we have considered. He utterly wasted this year & spent £millions doing so.

Tje mentality is set & I fear another good number won't easily shake it off.

Happy with Schu but he needs to drop the Evatt-light tippy-tappy.

I'm actually not bothered if we got rid of most of them, but it's not going to happen. Maybe keep Toal, Forino, Forrester, Thommason, Morley and Collins, that's it. Any players that are going to be out of favour and still under contract, either try and get some cash for them or loan them out.

Main thing that cost us going into this season was no real plan through the summer we were trying to wave a few quid at the likes of McAtee/Dembele/Schon/Randall ect but it seemed like it was "lets get a few more luxury players in the mix" without really knowing what roles they'd actually fit into & not actually realising that maybe some of them wouldn't be able to play together. Looking in hindsight Pompey went from 8th to champions within a good summer of committing to a system & recruited smartly for that way of playing. Wycombe finished 9th last season, recruited smartly for how they wanted to play this season although it's dire to watch it's got them competing near the top I mean we even loaned them Morley thinking they'd be nowhere near the top end. Charlton signed a decent striker in Godden, packed the midfield with absolute battlers & have turned into a really tough nut in a short space of time due to having a decent manager who won't take anything but full effort throughout the whole team... they finished 16th last season so another example of how a good summer can rocket you back into business. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what his plan is for us next season seeing as he's addressed a lot of the glaring issues that makes us dreadfully one dimensional, one paced & one geared instead of overlooking & choosing to ignore the massive holes that get exposed season on season like the last manager. Not going to be easy moving on some of our sick notes & high earners who think they've made it at us but with not being in the play offs we have the time to work things out.

I've never understood this about fans supposedly turning on their own more than anyone else.  Santos, McAtee, Randall, Lolos, Dan and Vic - not exactly born and bred in Bolton.  In fact most of the squad this season, including kids from Newcastle/Cardiff, have had stick. Tomo has had more praise than most, so has Morley - our own local players.

In the recent past the likes of Madine, Pratley and Andrews got it more than Vela (dozens more examples).

Its the Crawley player I had in mind, he was sent off in about 85th minute for his 2nd bookable foul on Tutu, and it proved pivotal as we went on to win it against 10 men.  A couple of others when teams made subs as they were on the verge of a red - Brum and Stockport?  I forget which.  I just know this season would have been even worse without Tutu taking players on for skill and pace.

I agree he's annoyingly inconsistent - especially away games - but I'm struggling to think of one consistent player in this squad, maybe Cogley is a 6 or 7 every week, never great, never crap.  Everyone else especially midfield and forwards, seem to be up and down week after week.  If we lose Tutu that's a winger we definitely need to sign and I'd be amazed if we got anyone better to play for us in L1.

Don't think it will happen, but Randall should go. He's been a total waste of money  Santos has had his day, probably Jones as well. I'm still hoping McAtee to come go, then play him and Collins off a big striker. I think wev'e seen the best of Shennan and Johnson. I'd keep the rest, an sign some stronger more physical players.

4 new players over a season won’t have enough effect to get us promoted or change the mentality. We need to go from a minus goal difference to grinding wins out week in week out a massive leap .

think we need some one capable of holding the ball up more than a walker anyway

Can't say as I remember Nolan being scapegoated as such, but he wasn't the same player by the time he went.

He needed a change of club, or a change of manager.

Unfortunately, the latter wasn't going to happen, so we lost him.

No one ever turned on Nolan

Most could see he'd lost his edge due to liking the booze and having kids

He was blowing out his arse on a regular basis by the time he left

But he was nowhere near to be hounded out or anything like that

We can probably carry one lightweight player providing their extra creativity outweighs their physical disadvantage, but if you look at the size, physicality and athleticism of Championship teams, we are miles behind. Big strong lads who are as good on the ball as our best.
