Mounts Kipper Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 What’s everyone’s thoughts? I’m all for it…. Admittedly not read the detail. Quote
London Wanderer Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Brilliant decision. Some sympathy for the kids who’ve had to make the switch, but hope they notice the benefits. Be even better for the next generation. Hopefully we follow suit. Be good to see kid friendly phones up to 16 that can only be used for texts & calls. Quote
Popular Post green genie Posted December 13, 2025 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2025 Can they extend it to OAPs? 😉 Quote
Ani Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Very brave decision but the right one. Sometimes adults have to be tough on kids for their long term benefit, imagine companies will find ways round the ban. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 I think parents do need this support and tech companies have been without regulation for too long. Quote
London Wanderer Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Our wee one will have 2 monthly visits to a development clinic for check ups due to his prematurity. Up until he's two. All the health professionals we're involved with have recommended a child should have no screen time until they are two years old, to help with healthy brain development. The evidence seems fairly clear. As for older kids - there is no regulation on these platforms. Even things that seem harmless like YouTube kids, that you'd think would be fine to leave your kids on, can pose a big risk. Especially with the new AI influences. https://www.mensjournal.com/news/expert-warning-youtube-ai-slop-rewire-child-brain As for teenagers. It really is no coincidence that we're seeing a rise in obsession with extreme violence and some horrific attacks happening. Obviously parental neglect and lack of boundaries is a big factor in these cases as well. Reform seem quite big on this as well - so hopefully it's something we see all parties addressing urgently. DirtySanchez Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Was reading an article that said kids have already found ways to get round it Think one found a photo of her mum, took a pic on her phone and was able to use that as ID Quote

Enforcement is going to be difficult, but fundamentally, bring it on. Quote
kent_white Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Good move. I think it's high time we removed anonymous accounts from social media too. Quote

Not sure about that. Far too many examples of people's data being stolen/published at the moment. Then there is the "big brother" conern too. If, and it's a big "if" personal data could be guaranteed safe, then maybe. The companies themselves need to be more effective at removing posts/accounts that overstep into dodgy legal territory. royal white Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Good idea but will it really work? Kids will always find a way around these things plus there will always be parents allowing their kids on these sites. How do they plan to implement it? Would anyone with kids on here want them banned from YouTube Quote

Not sure that kids would have to hit "adulthood" to watch it all though. Quote

But your Twitter/Instagram/Facebook type platforms where the majority of people show their real names shouldn't be allowed anonymous accounts. Very different somewhere like Wanderersways where we all hide behind a pseudonym. And I think that platforms need to do a LOT better about policing their own content and moderating them more efficiently. I think it needs to be start being brought more into line with print media. And I also think they should get rid of the 'like/laugh/love' emojis. Basically nowadays I try really hard not not to say anything online that I woundn't say to someone's face directly. Quote

You don't drink until your birthday and then somehow become a complete piss artist like the rest of us Quote

Stop it now fella 😂 If the correct side and your side bumped into each other at the match, you'd all instantly become deaf and dumb 😘 Quote

My teen has started fishing and he’s finding everything he needs to know off there, my 2 youngest are obsessed with watching football on it, they see more footy on there when we would have ever seen as kids. There’s also the things like Mr Beast, and literally 1000s of other channels which kids love. Quote

My two youngest don’t watch TV, only YouTube, similar thing, my lad watches more football from teams I would have never even heard of at his age ( and some I still don’t) .Daughter used it to revise for exams , Can see a ban on something’s but YouTube just needs an age restriction for content, not total ban of access to it Quote
