There's no club left now in the league, maybe besides Stockport that deserve a battering as much as these.

Genuinely despise this club and we've only had ourselves to blame in recent years to allow them to rattle us so much. No doubt they will play out of their skins and make it as horrible as possible as usual.

Even despite some wins in there our home games have been quite poor for a while now. I don't really care as long as we win, but good god I would love it if we could just have a nice comfortable game for once, especially against these.

That 2-0 loss under Parky the week before the Forest game will take some undoing - heads were on Mars.

100% can sit on the couch at 7:44 with your balls out

nice & warm and don't have to fight getting off that car park during the week

As are the Sky Sports + coverage, 12.30 kick offs and ones on Thursdays. Don't get me wrong, it has its uses for an away at Exeter on a Tuesday night but it does definitely impact a lot on home attendance and atmosphere

With the players we have available we’re gonna have to bludgeon a way through them…. That won’t suit them… comfortable win for us.

Assuming ACD is out and Sheehan is on the bench at best, I’d go

Bonham

Tutu Toal Forino GJ Conway

Erhahon

Simons Dempsey

Burstow Dalby

Maybe harsh on McAtee and I was saying he should get a run, but not knowing whether his fitness means he can start 2 games in 4 days and with Burstow hopefully getting some confidence from his goal, I’d start him alongside Dalby.

edit - I’d also have a shoot on site policy. Lincoln’s first was a good shot from 20 yards out and 2nd was a shite bit of keeping that they put in after he spilled it. Don’t try and play perfectly through them every time, get round Dalby, get some shots off and get following in on the keeper.

We do look miles better with the wing back system in my opinion. More organised, better on the ball and more likely to shut the other team out.

We’ll really lack creativity without Sheehan and ACD, so don’t expect a nice fluid game, but we should be able to get the ball into the front men and support from midfield

If we are expecting these to sit in, use dark arts, and then try to scab a set piece, then I'd be tempted to give Morley a go, further forward.

We may need good crosses and set pieces ourselves.

Do we need two midfielders that protect the back line, and Dempsey who can mix it too?

I'd really consider playing Christie. Ironically not even anything defensively related but offensively. He's the only player in our whole squad who can cross a ball, which made us get 3 points on Saturday.

Play him out wide and pepper their box with Burstow and Dalby inside.

What has happened this season as attendance (actual, not tickets sold) does seem to have tailed off a bit?

Boredom of the same league for 5 years? Or could just be a run of really uninspiring games over this winter period. I am definitely looking forward to the next game with a decent away following

There are a lot of good points raised and its an interesting discussion as to why folk might not go in person to games.

However I'd question your assessment of our attendances this season.

We played Orient at home on a comparative winter Saturday last season.  Were there really many more there?  The highlights I published on that thread suggest not.  I even commented on Saturday pre-match that it looked busier than I expected, certainly nothing like an evening game or the Northampton 12pm KO.

Remember Charlton at home midweek last Jan? (IEs last game).  I'd be surprised if its so empty tomorrow.

Also its not that long since we had huge crowds v Wigan and Bradford not seen for a long time, so I'd just question that the crowds have reduced.  Obviously if the club actually published the attendances we'd be able to have a more informed discussion!

So maybe the discussion could be, why are we getting bigger crowds this season? 😀  And we'd start by saying we're hardly losing any home games now, and we turn up for the bigger games rather than roll over and die.

Lies and statistics and all that.

Morley too, but I take your point.

I was thinking the same, its become more of a grind this season with us, factors certainly including run of games against opponents with the same MO, poor officiating allowing games to descend into pantomime shithousing, and our collective loss of form / confidence, but there's a wider loss of enjoyment across the board that I see bemoaned across the socials by folk from clubs of all levels.

The joy has been sucked out of Premier League football through VAR, in the EFL its more of the above, emphasis on grinding points out by hook or by crook by some coaches, other Poundland Peps turning their fans off with tedious attempts at 'possession based football' to satisfy some rich but dim owner who thinks its cool to have a 'vision and a project'.

All great points.

I also hate the fact that goals have almost become devalued, because they are getting handed to opponents by all this faffing around at the back, not to mention that marking seems to be a thing of the past.  If the Prem league leaders can't even pass it successfully at the back (2 goals conceded this way in a couple of weeks), why are they trying it at L1 and L2 level?  Someone scores, fantastic, well done, then you see the goal and you think, I could have scored that if I'd had the fortune to play against you.  Its no longer an elite achievement to score against even the league leaders.

I would play Morley if Sheehan isn’t fit

So would I, it solves the set piece issue.  Not saying he's perfect, but we can't keep waiting 2 minutes for Christie to go over taking them and then having to get back from one corner of the pitch to the other.  And he can't last an hour anyway, never mind 95 minutes.

Think there have just been too many games in short period, we had 3 out of there Saturday. Will be same on Tuesday.

Add in the not so great weather and people not having been paid since Xmas, who in their right mind is going to take the family to Bolton v Orient in the middle of January as a treat ? If you are paying for ticket on day you are doing in north of £100 for tickets and crap you buy on day to watch.

Especially when we have Burton on Tuesday 😂😂

I would too.

Assuming others apart from those already mentioned are fit

Bonhan

Toal Forino GJ

Tutu Simons Morley EE Conway

Burstow Dalby

Maybe Dempsey instead of Simons or EE as I think he is more likely to got forward and support front 2.

If he insists on 2 wide men we lose a centre half and midfielder, at their place with 2 in midfield they basically bossed us.

Not sure ACD is going to be missed that much. Although he provides width, he hasn't been so effective since the oppostion has sussed his game.

I get that, but there's always a chance he can do something a bit different, one of the few in the squad that can

Fair point, that Charlton game last season was very sparse to say the least! As people have said, TV, winter weather, too many games in short succession and 5 seasons in league 1 all playing a factor.

The interesting one is general quality of the entertainment on offer. Hasn't yet put me off going to a Bolton match, but I'm definitely watching less football as a neutral as the style across the board has gone more set piece focused. Arsenal especially are so dull to watch, to the point where I was almost rooting for Man U yesterday.

I'd stick with 4 at the back for this but bring in Forino's height. 5 at the back seems excessive at home and just invites teams to set up to let us pass around the backline.

Would like to see:

Bonham

Christie, Toal, Forino, Conway

Morley, Erhahon, Simons

McAtee, Dalby, Gale

McAtee floating in off the wing as he did in his good season with Barnsley.
