I believe that you are correct. Not inconceivable that Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador or similar could go close in future years. With you though, almost certainly decades where it is won by anyone other than a European giant of one of the big two from South America.

The Argies were shithouses and, like most of the world, I am delighted they lost to Spain. They made the biggest sporting match in the world one of the worst in memory. Thank fuck the one team trying to play football won. The party was amazing where we were. A shame to have to leave so soon after the event.

indeed, and ironically enough, the other 2 piss poor finals that I can remember, both also ended up with Argentina losing 1:0 (both against Germany, 2014 and 1990) - They're utter shithouses, but they're very good at it

That is a very fair point.

The overwhelming history however was that World Cups in the Americas have overwhelmingly been won by South Americans. Slightly less overwhelming stats post 2026 competition rather than pre 2026 competition of course.

Digressing slightly, I would be pleased to see Carlo coaching his home nation at the next World Cup.

Oh, and I also backed Spain don't forget. Those that fail to learn from humble pie are doomed to eat it.
