So Called Plastic Whites! You Should Never Have To Explain..

Supersyd

Recommended Posts

Certain people on here are calling others ???plastic whites??? and people feel they have to explain themselves. To be honest no one should ever have to explain themselves as to why they went or why they didn't attend a match. Every club has many 'levels' of supporters, some go to all home & away games, some go to all home games and a few away games, some go to all home games, some go to a few home games. I could go on & on, there are a hundred more permutations. There are too many people out there who think they are a 'true' supporter because they go to ALL the games and if 'YOU' dont go to all of them you cant call yourself a fan, thats sh*t. Every club have fans who 'jump on the band wagon' when a team is doing well, we do, so what, thats how it works. We are not on our own! Our fan base was 3,500 in the 80's (and yes I was one of them, Home & Away etc etc) its now 25,000 and there are still people who say that the 21,000 or so are not 'true' fans. Look if these people didn't come we wouldn't be in the position we are in. We have to be thankful for those fans who do turn up even if its just a few times a season. The people who we should have a go at is those who say they support Bolton but NEVER turn up (obviously exclude those living 'away' now), I bet we all know someone like that.

I personally didn't go to the Carling Cup game against West Ham, it didn't interest me, I aint going against Leicster either but I went last night. I went to Bulgaria, I didn't go to Turkey but Im going to Portugal. Some fans may not be going to any for various reasons, no problem. Look if you are sat or stood next to me cheering the whites thats fine with me (unless you NEVER normally go and have got a free ticket then you can f*ck off). The only person who knows 100% if they are a Wanderers fan is you no one else.

In summary.....thank fcuk everyone says, the 'plastic fans' are those who NEVER go (excluding those who 'live away') but talk as if they ALWAYS go and if you are not going to a particular match but YOU know you are a fan you dont need to explain to anyone.

I agree completely with you supersyd. A club in our financial position needs all the fans we can, whether they turn up to every game in the season right down to those that can or do only attend a couple. I would love to go to all Bolton games but as i live in Sunderland coupled with a few other things means that i haven't actually watched a game live yet this season. However i am going to Portugal, despite not being able to afford it!

Fair play to those that do go to all our games, but this doesn't make them more of a "fan" than people that do not

I think your talking sense there - in today's world there are very few people who go to all the games - cost, time, travel, work etc....It's not like in the good old days where you worked 7-5 down't pit then your only match was on a Saturday at 3pm and it costed 1 bob to get in.

I have a season ticket and had one for 15 years but I regularly miss about 5 home games a season simply because driving up from North Cyprus fookin kills me if I do a weekend game and a cup game in the same week.

Am I a plastic fan cos I miss a few games?

Probably

Don't normally post on here, but the debate about people going and not going is one that does wind me up. Whilst I would never expect everyone to go to every game, if you look at it from a town perspective at times the support can be very p*&s poor.

There are certain facts with BWFCs support that you can't argue with.......

Like it or not we have 12,000-13,000 core supporters, that's where we fall down as a club. We get relegated tomorrow we'll have 6,000-7,000 people who wont renew their season tickets. That's been proven in the past when we went down. Every premier league club as them but for some reason we appear to have more than most.

Look at the crowds at Derby, Leicester, Wolves, Norwich, Ipswich etc in the 1st Divison. 20,000 plus every week, no way would we get that in that division and do we class those teams as bigger clubs than ours??

Yes it's expensive to go but it aint exactly cheap at many grounds these days.

For the UEFA home games it's bad news when we're not getting 20,000 plus for each game. First time in our history and at the end of the day you could get in for a tenner! Was the same price for the West Ham, how cheap would it have to be before people will go and support the team?? I've no doubt everyone will say it was 'only the carling cup' and they'll be playing the reserves, which is fine.....you wont be wanting to go to the final though if we get there will ya???!

The Aston Villa semi final was an absolute embarrassment and nobody can argue with that!!

I go watching Bolton because they're my team and always will be. What does sadden me though is sooner or later it'll catch up with us if the town doesn't back the club. People say why would big Sam leave to go here or there, it's easy there are teams in towns and city's round the country that would fill their ground every week, no matter who the opposition was or what cup they were playing in if they were where we are now!

The bottom line is t's up the town of Bolton to decide if they want a top team?? One things for sure, without support to match it we wont have a top team for long!......food for thought!

I've been going for nearly 30 years and during that time I've always been confinced we had the ability to survicti or sRthre getting into debates

what happened at the end of your post ? you cross your fingers ?

i go to every home league game i can and a few away.

fa cup and league cup....club dont take them seriously why should i ? tranmere away was final straw for me.

i can not understand how 20000+ people buy season tickets and nearly half of these do not go to european games.

now that is my view others may not see europe as important i see it is a great experience.

wont slag anyone for not going to a game everyone can make their own choice.

My order of priority this season (letting my heart rule the decision NOT my head), well this is how its been so far for me this season (excl the final's obviously):

1 - UEFA Away games

2 - FA or CARLING Final

3 - PREM Home games

4 - UEFA Home games

5 - PREM Away games

6 - FA Cup Home games

7 - CARLING Cup Home games

8 - FA Cup Away games

9 - CARLING Away games

My time & money to be spent in this order. If I aint got the money or time its b*llocks to the latter, 6 and down.

Whats your order?

Can those that didn't go to the home game against Zenit yet went to either Plovdiv or Besiktas defend why they didn't attend last nights game?

It's beyound me that some can travel miles to see the whites and indeed prefer the atmosphere at away games than the Reebok, but surely we have the best team I've seen for a long time and look like we may be going somewhere.

just accept they may miss out down the line

why no vouchers are issued at home games is beyond me

But you didn't go to Istanbul. So if that's our priority and you didn't bother to go, does that not mean you are a plastic fan?

Personally I don't give a flying fck what anyone else thinks - just go to the games that interest me.... and about 17 others that don't!

Mr Casino, long time no speak! The Zenit tickets have a perforated stub which says 'BWFC Vs ZSP Please retain'. If this isn't a voucher then I don't know what is!

That's me :D

I know what you mean, but it seems pointless to issue a ticket with a stub AND a voucher. The phrase 'please retain your stub for future ticket applications' isn't a new one after all.

As you know, I've not been a major fan of the ticket office in the past, but I don't think they're doing that much wrong at the moment.

Anyway, you'll be alright, apart from travelling to Portugal on the same plane(s) as Smiley #-o

I didnt go on Thursday night due to money problems but did go to Istanbul. Reason for me not attending the home leg was because I was skint. Uni on my back for fee's due (although im not supposed to be paying them) Single parent with xmas coming up. Also my children have things that they do aswell, and need to be taken and dropped off. I went to Istanbul not really being able to afford it, but I had the chance to go so I went (worry about the costs at a later date....which is now) I dont feel that I should have to justify why I didnt go (as posted by someone else on some other thread)

Not sure whther the above statement was meant to be a joke and was just a case of fishing, if thats the case then you got a whopper, if not then your bang out of order [-X

Like you said, you shouldn't need to explain why you went to 1 game but didn't go to another.
