Question for the "more senior" fan on here

I have been reading the "Happy Times in '73" thread with great interest, and it has got me thinking about how much ticket prices have actually gone up. Obviously they are more, but as a percaentage of take home wage each week/month are they really that different?

Say the average take home wage these days is ??400 and the average ticket price is ??30 then attending a ticket match costs 7.5% of your take home pay - and probably a huge amount more of your real disposable income after you have paid your mortgage, car expenses and living costs etc.

Back in '73 was the cost to attend a match still this high or was it really considerably lower as people always claim? :-k

Some student type on here must have done a discertatin on a subject like this :D

I remember goin round back of Working Mens Club in Hag Fold and nickin empty beer bottles, we took them in to the club and got 5p back on each one, it was 2p on the bus and 20p to get in the Lever End, that were about 1972. happy days

73 was the year I became a lever ender. I remember as a yoof (under 16) one could ride any single fare whatever distance on those orange and white selnec buses on any journey through Greater manchester for 10p.

I think boys were allowed in for something like 25p (girls did not go to football matches in those days and the only women were munters.

Totally agree, it should be like that now, women at football - waste of a ticket (unless they're top totty :D

first season ticket 71/72 season ??4.50 junior/ ??9 adult could be used in either lever end or embankment, 23 home matches + reserves. so i reckon then you could get yourself + kid a season ticket for about a weeks wage, probably take about nearly 3 weeks now for a lot of folk

to be fair, kids sts aren't bad

i think an adult and child is about 490 in west lower

micky d will know

first season ticket`s i got for me and my lad burnden stand ??97 for both 1992

When those Selnec buses came in, it was 2p for a single journey for under 16s, went up to 4p a couple of years later then 5p.

I know that the difference between two adult tickets for the West lower and 2 adults/2 kids is small. So small that I've heard of people buying the extra two kids tickets so they always have a couple of spares for bigger games.

2 adults and 2 kids is just ??42 dearer than 2 adults in West Lower or North Upper.

A couple of seasons ago it was actually cheaper to buy a 2+2 ticket than 2 single adults!

use to get the 42 from hilltop in the mid 70s cost me 2p there 2 p back 25p to get in the lever end and 8 p for a programme, so my odd job fetching errands for aunty madge fo 50 p per week easily paid for my trips to burnden. :D

I used to catch the 42 as well. I used to get on at the first stop after it crossed the M61.

Mmmmmmmmm

I'm tellin yer cricket is your new 70/80s football.

Right then lads - interesting thread. Burnden Bogs - make a mental note that one of the ENP's first tasks must be return the working mans game to the working man. F*ck prawn sandwiches and Chardonnay. Pints of bitter, Hollands pies and cheap entry to the grounds. That's what we stand for.

I was at a Milan-Reggina game last October. Met Mad Max (one of the leading lights in their Ultras) and found out they were staging a protest that day for the entire first half by staying out of the stadium. It was all about ACM trying to put up the season ticket prices to something like 190 euros. They get in for next to f*ck all and I am sure he told me they get free entry to ECL games with a season ticket. A lot cheaper to watch football on the continent it seems. As an aside, Max dragged me half way round the stadium in the second half glashing my BWFC tattooed bicep at his mates. You'd be surprised how much they know about us and Sam etc.

in the bad days of the early 80s, there were times when the bus picked up no more than 10 bolton fans up on the entire journey.

Well, with the help of Sky and the rising costs of tickets, those days will be back sooner than you think.
