Reebok Great Games

I think it is about time we highlighted superb games at the reebok i feel we have had as many superb performances at the reebok in 10 years than the last 20 years at burnden, we have beaten liverpool a top arsenal side more than once and the semi final win over villa was a great performance by the team, the year we escaped relegation was a superb rollercoaster ride with some fantastic support from the bolton faithful.

Ho hum. It's not getting any better is it? I think we've already discussed that generally, the important thing following the final whistle is the three points. But you have to be different.

Of course I want to win, but I???d rather lose 3-2 in an end-to-end thriller than win 1-0 with hoof-n-hope football.

I realise I am alone, but I go to football to be entertained.

so theres only been 1 great game in all the years you have spent watching bolton

god knows y you bother. i can list plenty of truly great games (in my view) and if i couldt do that i would not bother going at all

when was the last time you were entertained?

The comeback against Arsenal when Pedders scored.

or when Ricketts scored against us for Boro and we stayed up, which sparked wild

celebrations inside the Bok. i remember seeing Campo walking round the pitch

celebrating after the game, his look on his face said what the fook! he must of thought we

were all mad.

I loved Burnden but times change. The attitude towards the Bok is shite. We have an impressive

ground now and ok the whole experience has changed but rest assured without it we wouldnt

have the likes of Anelka,Campo,TBH,EHD in our current team and we certainly wouldnt have had

the priveledge of seeing Youri and Jay Jay wear the famous white shirt.

Its up to us to get an atmosphere going and maybe just maybe some of us will

start to enjoy the game more. thats my two penneth :good:

Unless 'Tasha means the 4-3 defeat at Burnden in 1981, er how old were you back then Natasha?

By the way, have you seen the attendence figures at those games? Looks like Bowton folk have never been fired up about watching Cambridge.

Gnosher doesn't make the same grammatical mistakes. It ain't him.

For me the last five years have been the best in our history (history for me is 1978 onwards!) for entertainment. There were some great individual games at Burnden but the majority were of poor quality in front of poor crowds creating poor atmospheres.

For me the season that got my blood well and truly curdling was the 2002/03 season. Memorable games. For total frustration 1-1 v Blackburn - conceding an equaliser in the 6th minute of a supposed 4 minute injury time period, two weeks after we let 3 points ago against Chelsea in the last minute. Sheer drama and entertainment of the 4-3 v Newcastle, 1-0 v Tottenham - I didn't go to this game but watched it in a pub in Bristol. I went totally beserk when Jay Jay scored that penalty, started leaping around with my arms in the air - spilling beer, to the complete bemusement of all other people in the pub. I had kept myself restrained until that point, and they clearly thought I was just another neutral watching the footy! My mates who I was with almost pissed themselves laughing.

Then of course the last nine games when us and West Ham played like CL contenders. Particularly remember the 2-0 v City with JJ showboating, 1-0 v WHU (JJ and Joe Cole), and of course the 2-1 v Mboro and Frandsen's fantastic strike which led me into a spontaneous jig of relief in the West Stand Upper.

Since then:

2003/04:

Everton 2-0. Took us 10th and the first time we really looked top 10 material. Jay Jay and Youri swopping 40 yard crossfield passes.

Arsenal 1-1. Pulsating game even for the neutral (I distinctly remember MOTd and Arsene Wenger praising the game and us after the game)

Newcastle 1-0. Pederson lobbed the keeper from the by line. Meant relegation was pretty much definitely avoided that year. Out in Bolton celebrating after.

2004/05

Charlton 4-1. Jay Jay 35 yard free kick and general stormer.

Man U 2-2. Celebrated so hard at 2-1 then......

Arsenal 1-0. No Davies but fantastic football against one of the best sides in history.

Southampton 1-1. For me the best football we have played at the Reebok. Again no Davies, we played along the ground, itnerchanging positions and at half time the crowd was purring. We couldn't take our changes and Phillips equalised.

2005/06

Plovdiv 2-1. First game in Europe. Not a great game, but lots of passion after Borgettis winner.

West Ham 4-1. Pummelled them for 45 minutes in one of the most dominant halves of football you'll see anywhere.

Arsenal 2-0. Dominated a top four side in every facet of the game.

Great summary Bristol. I think you've included all my favourite memories of late.

can't be tango he's down at Bolton Central...

Good shout, some great games there, the Bury one was a comedy classic! And to think some people say there are yet to see a decent game at the Reebok

Add the 1-0 win over West Ham and the 2-1 win over Boro the season we stayed up and it's more or less spot on.

Another one that sticks in my mind is us scoring in the last minute to beat Forrest 3-2 in Division 1, Ian Wright was playing for them and scored i think

Dunno if anyone else remembers a 3-0 demolition of Huddersfield?

It was still early season, they were top and had brought a large following.

I know it was only Huddersfield but our football particularly first half was top class.

Very much a Colin Todd team on a good day with Blake, Gunnlaugsson, Jensen and Frandsen at their best.

Yeah, nearly made my list. We annihilated them.

I realise I am alone

Not fooking surprising is it?

I don't know if it had something to do with the way Arsenal played, but those 2 performances stick in my mind as the highest quality football I've seen at the highest level from any Bolton team.
