Sod the "nearest to A&O" shit - just pick the biggest one near to the central train station and we all head to one place!

Danke shern ladies and gents ( or something like that...)

These beer halls are monstrous, some over 5 floors so no worries about getting bored if you stick in just one for the day. Still, seems a waste not to try at least one in each of those listed, all within walking distance of each other as well.

(though 10 litres of German weissenbier may be too much for some of the girls blouses I'm going with...take a bow Miggy,Nuggy and Sean ha ha  )

Enjoy and see you there.....won't get this chance again I feel!

Yours pessimistically :nea:

<_< Who are you then?

Is the A&O Hostel on the Bayerstrasse or the Arnulfstrasse? Sure i've read somewhere that its on one of those two roads. Those roads are either side of that big red train station thing

Augustiners is smashing (on the main drag between Karlsplatz and Marienplatz) - think its number 5 on that map. Killians Irish bar not bad (just off Wein strasse behind Marienplatz, next to the church).

Also at Marienplatz under the townhall is the Ratskeller - good beer, good food.

Haxnbauer does a good pork knuckle in between alehouses - its on Sparkassenstr again a stones throw from Marienplatz, failing that try Mr asado steak house in the centre of town.

In fact just stagger from hotel to Marienplatz and then off in any direction and you'll find somet good.

Its been a few years since I went to Munich but its a great place to go on the ale.

Just hope my dad doesn't take his Weissbeer back to the waiter complaining that its cloudy !

Schwabing area also has a few nice bars.

I'd suggest starting off somewhere in Marienplatz itself or otherwise number 5 on the map.

Good luck all.

From memory again and I will obviously stand corrected by people far more in the know on these subjects..........

Your looking at the area round schwanthalerstrase, schillerstrase and landwehrstrase for the sleaze shops, there are probably other areas but I remember being put up in a hotel on Paul-Heyse Strase and being almost slap bang in the centre of some of the sleaze bars.

Walking from Marienplatz up past augustiners etc on kaufingerstrase you end up at Karlsplatz (water fountains etc) carry on straight and you are heading in the right direction. Alternatively get to hauptbahnhof and walk it.

As i say there may be others with a more detailed/up to date knowledge - I'm a clean living fellow :-) ....... and sh*t scared of the Mrs :-)

Balls to beer halls, beer gardens is where the Germans drink. English Garden for me.
