Benayoun ???

Would love him

Turned us down once though.

No chance now

Liverpool after getting shut.

Linked with us last week ?3.5 million.

Stephen Ireland ???

Luis Boa Morte ???

etherington ??

Nolan, McCann, Dzemaili, JOB, Cohen, Taylor & Muamba, Gardner.

Hardly bursting with talent.

Only Nolan, Muamba, Taylor are better than average.

So your telling me that One of Readings best and most consistant Prem performers is not better than McCann, Dzemaili, JOB, Cohen, ??

Who the fcuk are they ????

He probably is, but we play 4-3-3. Nolan and Muamba have got their spots in that midfield trio nailed down, leaving one spot open for someone more creative, which Harper isn't. Harper isn't going to fancy coming here to warm the bench, and we don't have the cash to throw around to spend ?4mil on a reserve.

We need to make sure we've got a strong first team and then sort the rest out with whatever cash is left.

im not sure what we'll be playing next season

when interviewed after signing muamba, megson said all that stuff about engines and box to box etc etc and added

this signing will allow us to do something we haven't been able to do in the past few months

now, he may mean kick folk into the stands, but i wondered if he meant it gave us the mobility to play with 4 in the middle?

Welcome to 2009!!!!

If you have 2 positions, you need minimum 3-4 players competing for them positions.

Maybe thats why Nolan has gone stale, as his position in the team is "nailed down", he doesn't need to prove himself against anyone!!!

You need a healthy squad, and especially in midfield.

We're playing 4-1-2-1-2 next season.

As Undies would say: YHIHF.

Yes, if you're Chelsea. For us, we can't afford nor attract two quality midfielders and sit them on the bench all season. We're not going to pay ?4mil for someone and stick them on the bench and wait for Nolan (who i don't recall ever having a serious injury) to get injured. Thats reality.

When we have a quality first XI, then i'll worry about buying in players for big money to play on Wednesday nights at Euxton. Sammy Lee tried having two-three players for every position and it failed miserably because instead of a small but quality squad like we had under Allardyce, we had a huge but wank squad. The way forward for us is to have a quality first XI, and then have utility men and good youngsters who don't expect to play every week (like Guthrie) filling in where neccesary.

This lad talks some sense. Are you sure you're in the right place?

well said tom

EVERYONE in the prem needs a squad of some sort.

You obviously have some money, as your buying slid Prem players...........for a change.

Your back 4 is quite solid.....but midfield and attack is fcuking shocking. Relegation fodder.

When you were quality the other season you had Speed, Noland and Campo in the midfield. Replace Campo and Speed with players almost 10 years younger ( which you have ) and you can see some sort of midfield formig now. If you keep Guthrie, and add one attacking midfielder, bang....looking good then!

Then Buy Andy Johnson of us, and you might stay up!!

I still think Dawson would do a decent job at the back and thus the defence would look solid.

Jussi/Ali/Walker/Bogdan

Hunt/Steinsson

Meite/AOB/Cahill/Dawson

Samuel/Gardner

Plenty of options: left back is the weakest area there.

So, Pablo's right: let's concentrate on the midfield and attack.

Currently there's Taylor, Muamba, Nolan, McCann, JOB and Cohen in midfield: plenty of fight but short on pace and flair.

Up front: Diouf, Davies, Helguson and Vaz T?: short of an out and out goalscorer.

See, our defence sorta illustrates my point. Dawson plays for a side who would like to believe are a huge club, he is also in and around the England team. If he comes to us not only will he cost a good few million, he'll want to be the main man. He won't want to have to come up to a small Northern club from his posh London apartment, only to have to duke it out with Harrogates finest to play alongside Cahill. Similarly, Meite (who was meant to be pissed off when he found out he was third choice) is going to be less than chuffed when we tell him he's now fourth choice and has to wait for something akin to the bubonic plague striking Bolton in order to get a game.

Instead (if we keep Meite or sell him and buy another) we'll have two quality centre halves, one capable one, with Fojut and Steinsson filling in. Hunt/Steinsson/JOB/AOB/Sinclair on the right and then Ricky/Samuel/Taylor for the left. Thats the only way we're going to get close to having a happy squad with some depth to it IMO.

Other than that i agree with you both, Guthrie and a shit hot playmaker + pacy striker = Safe midtable and hopefully a cup run, here we come.

i was in total agreement with you, but then you said 'shit hot'!

at which point your opinion became null and void.
