globaldiver Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 There's a lot of talk around at the moment: "Well if we lose all 8 against the big teams and win the rest we'll be happy" Have we given up those games? (just like Carling Cup, FA Cup, Europe) Is it just a 30 game season for us now?

Widnes Two Hats Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I have no issue with losing all games against the top 4 providing we keep winning against the teams competing for the remainder of places And that's what we're doing Why Davies was on the bench though is beyond me We can't play without him
no balls Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Why Davies was on the bench though is beyond me I think the yellow card thing sounds like a plausible reason.
glennboltw Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I think the yellow card thing sounds like a plausible reason. If he would have got a yellow card he would have only missed Sunderland in the cup, don't think that was the reason!

Moderators Horwich Posted December 26, 2008 Moderators Posted December 26, 2008 I think the yellow card thing sounds like a plausible reason. No it doesnt. He was missing because Mr Megson thought we would be more "solid" with Muamba and Gardner. 6 at the back. Can someone tell him it doesnt work!

Widnes Two Hats Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 It's all about knowing your limits I've no problem with Megson resting players, Davies isn't a player who needs resting Bad choice in my opinion But we'll beat Wigan on Sunday So, I'm not arsed about today's result Having said that, I've absolutely no interest in Match of the Day now
glennboltw Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 It's the next match is it not if he received one? It usually is but because of the timing of the booking (christmas) it won't come into effect, the F.A wont process the booking in time for the next match therefore it will be the Sunderland game

(just like Carling Cup, FA Cup, Europe) Is it just a 30 game season for us now? Make that a 28 game season (include Villa for the moment). I'm beginning to feel that way about these games myself - we're not even getting that close. Though to be fair, Megson doesn't sound happy either.
Henrick_Pedigol Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 There?s nothing wrong with playing 4-5-1 at Anfield. I'm not a Megson knocker, but the difference between him and Allardyce is the respect we pay to the top teams. Today and against Chelsea and at Villa we have set out to allow the opposition possession in their own half. In the Allardyce era we got results against the top 4 (especially Arsenal) when we pushed on and pressed their back 4. We have the best player in Europe at doing this. He did not start today. Under Allardyce the team was inspired against the top 4 and consequently gained points. Like I say I'm not a Megson knocker - I think he's doing a decent job, but I'm still not inspired as a fan and I don?t think the players inspired to greater things. Allardyce was a one off for Bolton, his achievements were amazing. To do that again would be an outstanding achievement for Megson. Yes I've had 10+ pints
coxy Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) sounds familiar this need 3 points against wigan and resting players edit: seems i'm not the only one who remembers wigan away! on well,at leastl top half makes it feel better! Edited December 27, 2008 by coxy

Are we in trouble?

No more so than 3/4 of the league. Winning away is the new winning at home this season. Everyone is at it. Us being mostly shit at home is countered by the fact that we're mostly good away. All of the teams will go through rough times and good ones, this will be us for the next few weeks. We'll be in the bottom three next month, but having played all the top four and with an easier run in. Midtable guaranteed.
