Sluffy Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Nothing mysterious, because we've discussed loads of times on here already. Behind the scenes was a shambles before he arrived. More than half of the support staff went with Allardyce to Newcastle: the rest were either sacked or mis-used by Sammy Lee: different coaches home and away etc etc. So, he's had to rebuild behind the scenes from pretty much nothing. It's a non-story IMO. You are probably right that it is a non-story but I think there is more in it than what you say - as Megson talks about being in the middle of a 'Huge transition period' - I take your point about the backroom shambles he inherited but surely after 16 months he should have got most of that behind him now - not be in the middle of it? Possibly it?s also about the funding and signing of a team of talented young players. No one from the academy as come through since Hunt and Nolan - Vaz-Te and Joey O'Brien have not established themselves - and Basham apart - there does not seem to be anyone else on the horizon. Perhaps the club recognised that with players such as Campo and Stelios etc, being past their sell-by date and the likes of Cid and Braaten etc, not good enough - that Megson had not only to keep us up but to identify and acquire young players and build for the clubs future in the Premiership as well - hence is comment of being in the middle of a transition? I've always been a Megson supporter from his appointment and I think he's done a fantastic job so far - so based on that I believe we are in safe hands and that if anybody can build us a team for the future, then Megson can.
MickyD Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 These fans aren't exactly coming across well, are they? They're coming across as dick-heads from where I'm sitting. Pretty sure I heard booing when RV announced Gavin Mccann on the team sheet yesterday. And from the ESL, that bastion of fair play!
fruitbat69 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I'm not sure he explains why Muamba was the player that Gardner replaced, since he admits we were more solid with Muamba on.We needed Gardner on at half-time in order to attack better for the win - good move on GM's part. I thought maybe for Elmander though, since he's not yet match fit and was subbed later anyway. Just myview of the way the match was going ..... don't all shoot at once. At least Elmander is getting in the positions to score. He just needs a goal to kick start him again after his lay off
Traf Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 In all fairness, though. You'd have expected him to score at least one of his chances yesterday. I'd currently back Davies to have put one of them in.
YATESY Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 (edited) In all fairness, though. You'd have expected him to score at least one of his chances yesterday. Does it need an Elmander for the axe thread starting to get the lad scoring? Edited March 2, 2009 by YATESY
764104443 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Quite a long and interesting article - ?There?s three or four of us who tend to stay out: Davo (Kevin Davies), Gaz (Gary Cahill), myself, and normally Fabrice Muamba. It helps to improve your touch, and your sharpness,? explains Matt Taylor. ?We have a competition between ourselves and you have some banter with the goalies and it puts a smile on people?s faces, but the main thing is it keeps you on top of your game. There?s no substitute for practice, practice, practice.? Plenty more here - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle5822390.ece When he first come i wasnt impressed and didnt rate him. Now i think he is a really good player who loves scoring screamers

Yatesy reckoned Anelka was a sh1t striker. Modern society is to blame. Instant gratification. Folk can't even give a new player a while to acclimatise and gel with his new team. Elmander will hit a hot streak. He just needs to string a good few games together.

bolty58 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I have entered a parallel universe where p1ss taking becomes compliments. Don't feel comfortable here. Can we revert please? Best regards, Kenny Skippy von Bolt.
bolty58 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Was Bolty in The Wizard of Oz? No mate, you misheard. The Whizzer in Oz.

Its like chinese whispers with the passing of time. For the record, I dont think that I ever said Anelka was shite. I questioned how long you keep faith with a striker who isn't scoring goals. I went on to mention that the likes of The Borg would have given his right leg for a run of 13 consecutive league games - and one thing for sure, he wouldn't have gone without a goal during that run. I think you will struggle to find a post of mine where I called Anelka shite. Ofcourse, those with time to kill can now search through the archieves and prove me wrong
Casino Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 shite or not shite it was absolute bollocks little bolton pay 8 million for a world class striker and drop him aye, thats why you're counting beans

Anelka came to us a shadow of his former self having lost his way in Turkey. After 14 games for Bolton he had 1 goal in a league cup tie. Hindsight is great friend and ofcourse, now we look back and praise the fact that the flood gates opened once he got that first league goal. But at the time of my posts on Anelka he had gone 13 league games without a goal. Hope that your request for assistance in bean counting was benefical

If owt, I think you might be agreeing with me. If this is the case, I will need the smelling salts. Can't be arsed trawling back through archives to prove/disprove anything you said about Anelka. My recollection is that it was along the lines of your more recent flight of fantasy regarding patience with SKD. You were clearly right about Anelka. His abject failure at Chelsea is a case in point. A shadow of his former self

His abject failure at Chelsea is a case in point. A shadow of his former self No part of my post was related to Elmander. For what it is worth, the lad keeps picking up an injury when he looks settled and in form. As for Anelka, he should always be thankful for the 'punt' BSA took on him. He had lost his way in Turkey and could have gone the way of a few other great players who hit the graveyard too early. We got his hunger back (eventually!!!), we reeped the benefit for a far too short a period and now obviously Chelsea are.

Ofcourse, those with time to kill can now search through the archieves and prove me wrong Maybe he wouldnt, but i doubt he would of picked up the ball 40 yards out then advanced forward to smash the ball in off the bar against arsenal and then score another great goal in 2nd half to warp up the game would he? The Borg needed chances put on a plate where Anelka could get the ball anywhere in the opposition half and make things happen and score goals. When a player has class they dont lose it i.e Okocha, Hierro, Djorkaeff.

Traf Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Maybe he was, but we're a better team now than we were when he played.

Very under used talent IMO Was Borgetti, i think if he would have been given a run could have scored a lot of goals for us boys. Just my opinion mind.

Just my opinion mind. Cant argue with that, he was definatley a good goal poacher. I think most managers saw him as a luxury we couldnt afford though which was a shame.
