Wanderers legend Gudni Bergsson has urged Fabio Capello to give Gary Cahill an opportunity to prove himself for England.

 

The Bolton centre half has won his one and only cap after coming on as a second-half substitute against Bulgaria in September.

 

Despite regular injuries to defensive rivals Rio Ferdinand and John Terry, Cahill has been continually overlooked by Capello.

 

And Bergsson believes the 25-year-old deserves the chance to shine on the international stage ? starting with tomorrow?s friendly against Denmark at Wembley.

 

?I certainly think he is due another opportunity,? says Bergsson, who made more than 300 appearances in eight years with Wanderers. ?I know he wants to prove he is worthy of a place.
