Mounts Kipper Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 The shortage of centre midfield players is going to be a big problem to overcome in the semi-final I cannot see us getting any result if we dont have Muamba and Davies in harness, I am very very concerned we are not going to have the personnel to get us past Stoke.
MickyD Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Elmander could do a job there according to the tower fm pundits.
passmosster Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 The shortage of centre midfield players is going to be a big problem to overcome in the semi-final. You mean our 2 are always playing their 3.
marple whites Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Mavies will be back for wembley - no problem. Simples........
smithills_gent Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I've seen nothing to suggest that Muamba/Mark Davies is a strong enough central midfield pairing to win the Stoke match. In my opinion Coyle needs to do something different, most likely play 5 across the midfield We had some success under Megson when he played Gardner in central midfield with 2 others.Perhaps play Lee/Muamba/Cohen or Davies in the centre. Holden is an outstanding player who can't be replaced by Mark Davies,Cohen or anyone else in the Bolton squad.I think the system has to change to make up for his absence.
HomerJay Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 the stoke game will not be won or lost in centre mid. stoke dont bother playing there.

smithills_gent Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I rather suspect that we'll be going 442 I agree, but I don't think we have the players to beat Stoke playing 4-4-2. Get Lee or even Gardner back from PNE running at them from central midfield and we could do it.
YATESY Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 the stoke game will not be won or lost in centre mid. stoke dont bother playing there. Nail on head. We will beat them with a better long ball or out wide.
Mounts Kipper Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) I don't agree with Yatesy, I make Smithills right, Gardner must be recalled as he is a decent option through the middle in a 5 man midfield, allowing Chung yong and whoever is on the left to get forward, I wouLd not bet on us winning playing 4-4-2 even less so if Davies aint fit and for me Stoke are big favourites to go through if we play 442, this is a big big call for Owen Coyle. scoobydoo Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Knight at centre half , Cahill centre midfield with mavies
superkev Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) We have played 442 all season, which has served us pretty well so why should we switch to 451 for our biggest game of the season. I know the game could go either way but some are bigging stoke up to be like Barcelona. We have won and lost against them this season so why all of a sudden change formation. Mark Davies should be back for that game, it would'nt surprise me if he is already fit but Coyle will not risk him up until the semi Edited April 3, 2011 by superkev

superkev Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 We ain't gonna change. This is Stoke who coyle will fancy beating even without Holden. There have been plenty of times when we have been under pressure with Holden in the team aswell. Whilst admitting he has been great this season I wouldn't say he is the sole reason we are able to compete with 442
superkev Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 This semi final is 50/50. There would be no need to change formation or indeed to get Gardner back who I agree would be effective in the midfield if it was 2 or 3 years ago
paulhanley Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Knight at centre half , Cahill centre midfield with mavies I've been thinking the same. If Gardner is back at Bolton, I suspect he could also play a very useful role from the bench. First things first though, lets get something out of West Ham at home.
fester58 Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 if mavies is ruled out of next match, i'de give matty taylor a go in centre mid, iam sure he used to play there for pompey.
Didledee Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Petrov -- Muamba -- Cohen -- Elmander [meh] Petrov -- Muamba -- Cahill -- Elmander [if Knight is back] Petrov -- Muamba -- Elmander -- Lee [not sure if serious] Petrov -- Muamba -- Taylor -- Elmander [meh] Petrov -- Muamba -- K.Davies -- Lee [This is jokes] Petrov -- Muamba - Cahill -- Elmander -- Lee [Coyle doesn't do 5 in mid, so forget this] Rodrigo -- Muamba -- Lee [4-3-3, Sturridge, K.Davies and Elmander up front] Muamba -- Cahill [4-2-4, Sturridge, K.Davies, Elmander and Klasnic up front, Knight back] Petrov -- Lee [3-2-5, Gung-ho style, Sturridge, K.Davies, Elmander, Klasnic and Rodrigo upfront]

tylswhite Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 nicely overlooking the contribution of the shit muamba Some of our fans overrate Holden so much its unfuckingbeleivable. Hes a good player with a good allround game but some people on here make him out to be fucking Messi and everybody else we have is shit. All this panic stations because he is out is doing my fucking head in. The reason weve done so well this season is we have played well as a team and stuck together. One man doesnt make a team FFS.
Mounts Kipper Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 nicely overlooking the contribution of the shit muamba Sorry casino muamba has been average at best this season and without Holden looked like a lost sheep on many occasions.
Casino Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Sorry casino muamba has been average at best this season and without Holden looked like a lost sheep on many occasions. you said it was his running that make us what we are muamba does equally as much running some fools reckon he's shite
HomerJay Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Only a matter of time until Holden is the 'not fit to wear the shirt' man. How many games has Holden missed this season? I'm guessing not alot. So the none win ratio is bollocks. Centre mid is a partnership. Holdens ideal partner is muamba.
